Where to even begin this week? The record spring snows, rain and melting have given way to our dear State being torn apart by the rushing waters of the Platte and record flooding.
Even though we may not have the water here, I think just about every one of us knows someone affected. Record flooding like we have never seen with dams, levees, and bridges giving way before our eyes. Roads crumbling which will affect people in ways we never even thought.

Here in Elmwood, we have been lucky and blessed.
We need your help!
Elmwood is partnering with Murdock to gather items to help area flood victims. We are working with Cass County Behind the Badge and the Cass County Emergency Management Agency for this project. We are very fortunate. Let's do what we can to help others who are not so fortunate.

Bottled water, formula, canned goods (include hand operated can openers you have in your "junk drawer"), boxed foods, macaroni/cheese, peanut butter, oatmeal, dry cereal, crackers, dried fruit, canned soup, canned fruit, peanut butter crackers, granola bars. canned meats like tuna fish/chicken, nuts, jerky, individually wrapped snacks.

Volunteers Coming from All Over the Country
Last Saturday a Salina Kansas nurse, and volunteer with the United Cajun Navy and other disaster assistance organizations was in Blair and Gretna Nebraska this past weekend. A nurse I know (who helped after my car accident in 2015) is coordinating the Kansas volunteer efforts. She has also volunteered during Hurrican Harvey and Florence in North Carolina.
I mention this as Rebecca was an angel on the roadside during our near tragedy and continues to be a lifesaver.
If you would like to know how to volunteer with Rebecca and their efforts in Nebraska please send me an email at editor@elmwoodnebraska.com and I will put you in touch. She will need a copy of your driver's license as she is part is a "recognized" relief group.
This will be a long process as the flood water recede. Here is some drone footage of the Platte River near Louisville last week.
Share this newsletter to Facebook and send to your friends across the country.
Drop off your items this week. We may be dry, but the next time a disaster might be in our community.

Help Aiden Keckeinsen
Little Aiden Keckeisen was born with a heart condition known as atrioventricular septal defect. He had a difficult time gaining weight, and he struggled to breathe due to excess blood flow to his lungs.

At just 4 months old, Aiden underwent surgery to correct the defect. He received a unit of red blood cells and platelets during the procedure.
“When we heard Aiden would need blood products, it made it very apparent that I (and my husband) needed to get back to donating again,” said Aiden’s mother, Ranae. “I am forever grateful to the donors who gave the blood and platelets used for Aiden and pray that the blood we donated has a similar life-saving use or story. I would encourage anyone to look at Aiden's sweet face and consider taking 30 minutes out of their day to go donate blood.”
Make your appointment now to donate your life-saving gift at the
Elmwood Murdock High School Blood Drive on Thursday, April 4th from 1 PM – 7 PM.

Highway 63 UPDATE
The first phase of the project from I-80 to Church road was completed in 2017. This opened Church road east-west and connected it to I80.
Last year, 2018, was supposed to be culverts, grading and paving from South of Church road to Alvo.
The weather put the culvert work, grading work and utility relocation work behind schedule. By the time we had the subgrade stabilized and embankments constructed it was too cold to pave.
We will go to work on subgrade reconstruction and foundation placement once the frost is out of the ground and we get some drying weather.
Paving should go fast and we hope to be paved out by July.
I know it is frustrating but grading work is very susceptible to delays with wet weather and last year had a lot of rain.
It is with the hope that we can open in July.
Please encourage anyone interested to call the district office for updates.

Our project manager is Jesse DeLosSantos.
Our Construction Engineer is Curt Mueting.
