Christmas was two days ago, and New Years is just around the corner.

What a year in Elmwood, so many activities, so many things happening. We have some pretty amazing people in our community doing phenomenal things. 

In addition to all the school activities, we have an active Bess Streeter Aldrich Museum which brings hundreds of people per month into our town. Bits N Pieces is also VERY highly regarded and is on the "Thrift Store" route on Saturdays for many people. I don't know about you, but when I needed gift bags and cookie tins Bits N Pieces is where I headed. It's great when you can buy local and stay local for your shopping choices. By the way, did anyone receive gift certificates for massages?

We have new businesses, a new Elmwood-Murdock school superintendent, AND a new park!! 

What will 2018 bring? 

I want to thank everyone who has contributed and sent news and community information. I couldn't do this without you. The 2018 challenge is to increase the number of people who read the Elmwood website and the weekly news. The calendar in the upper right-hand corner will be filled out each month and I want to add church dinners, meetings, community center events, library hours, and of course our Village Board meeting schedule.

Let's celebrate the accomplishments and unique news of our community. Do you know someone, a former student or current Elmwood resident who is doing something unique or interesting? Maybe they live in another part of the world? Maybe you know someone who wrote a book? Is doing a college internship internationally.

IT’S MOVIE TIME!
Elementary school students are invited to see a movie at the library on their day off from school.

On Thursday, December 28th we will be showing “SING!” at 11:30.

We will provide a drink and a snack and the movie will be finished by 1:30 with plenty of time to clean up before the library closes at 2:00.
Please come and join us. You'll have a singin' good time!

 FREE Elmwood Library hour magnets available. Stop by and pick one up for your refrigerator. Never forget when the library hours are again. I know I'm going to get one. I have a memory like a sieve sometimes!

16th Annual Short Story Contest

Start thinking of ideas for the 16th Annual Bess Streeter Aldrich short story contest. 

The goal is to generate a fictional short story that is written in the wholesome spirit displayed by Bess Streeter Aldrich in her works while incorporating a theme that focuses on Nebraska’s economy, history, cultural diversity, and/or geography (past, present, and/or future).

Writers are encouraged to focus on historical and/or realistic topics. This year the Aldrich Foundation is paying tribute to Mrs. Aldrich’s novel The Rim of the Prairie and believe it would be an excellent resource.

Eligibility (Four divisions):

Adult: 1st Prize $100; 2nd Prize $50; 3rd Prize $25
High School (Grades 9-12): 1st Prize $50; 2nd Prize $25; 3rd Prize $15
Middle School (Grades 6-8): 1st Prize $50; 2nd Prize $25; 3rd Prize $15
Intermediate School (Grades 3-5): 1st Prize $25; 2nd Prize $15; 3rd Prize $10

 Cass County Creative Cars 4-H Club

Charles Cawley and Whitney Koen from Cass County Creative Cats 4H club was interviewed on channel 10/11 new's section of Pure Nebraska about the clubs community service project for this year.

The project included collecting wrapping paper, gift tags, and gifts for 3rd grade kids in a school in a low income area to give presents to their parents for Christmas.

 Post Prom Fundraiser

Post-Prom has started a new fundraiser where you are able to purchase gift cards through Post Prom to all of your favorite restaurants and stores at no extra cost to you. For every card you purchase, a percentage goes to Post Prom with you still getting the full value of the card you purchased.

Please consider using the cards not only for Christmas gifts and shopping but also for your dining, weekly errands, and grocery shopping. Please see the attachment for a complete list of cards available. E-Scrip is also available on select cards for a convenient shopping option.
