The Elmwood-Murdock Band again takes first place at the AppleJack Festival last Saturday. The band has a long tradition of excellence and as you can see the tradition continues. Thank you to all who sent photos. We are a very proud band community!!

Harvest Moon Hustle

We are a busy town and a mecca for events and entertainment in the fall. This past Friday you couldn't help but notice the thousands of people gathering at the park. If anything you noticed the dozens of blue porta-potties sitting at the park and wondered what in the world was going on!

Below was going on. I took video the start of the race and runners kept coming and coming. There were even a few Elmwood-Murdock people in the race. Although Abby was the only one who waved enough for me to recognize her. Dusty might consider herself lucky as the runner in front blocked her from my view.

This is a great event and Elmwood is excited to have it here for the 6th year. Runners ran 6.2 miles on the mostly on the MoPac Trail. This is a great spectator event. Over 1,300 runners from 10 states participated in the event.

They have grown from 300 runners to 1,300 runners! Thank you to everyone who has volunteered and cheered on the route and the runners!

We will be having an Author & Illustrator book signing on October 2nd from 5-8 pm.

The team of Matt Leatherwood & Daryl Wills have collaborated on a wonderful new book, "The Perfect Stone".

Daycare teachers, Pre-School teachers, Elementary school teachers, parents, grandparents and children alike will love this fable of a boy who spends his entire life in search of the perfect stone. Beautifully and simply illustrated, children will embrace this story as parents learn a valuable lesson about life and the search for perfection. A great read any time of day for the entire family!!

There will be books available for purchase along with refreshments and crafts. And you'll even have a chance to get to know this great team.

Readings of the book will take place at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

The Palmyra Panthers defeated the Elmwood-Murdock KnightsThe Palmyra Panthers defeated the Elmwood-Murdock Knights 26 – 15 last Friday night in Palmyra.

Palmyra scored on their 1 st possession on a 18yard touchdown pass from Koby Dillon to Drew Bessey. The Knights answered right back with a 10 play 61-yard drive. Andy Meyer finished the drive with a 2-yard run.Payton Frahm kicked the PAT to give the Knights a 7-6 lead. I was very pleased with how we responded after their 1 st TD. We methodically moved the ball down the field and answered their TD with one of our own. Palmyra pinned the Knights down to their own1 yard line in the middle of the 2nd quarter.

The Knights utilized a strong rushing attack and marched 99 yards down the field in 10 plays. Austin Meisinger capped the drive with a 47-yard keeper down the left sideline. EM made a 2 pt. conversion and took a 15-6 lead late in the 2 nd quarter. We moved the ball extremely well the first half. TheKnights earned 16 first downs on the evening.

Palmyra responded with a big play of their own when Drew Bessey took a tunnel screen pass from Koby Dillon and scored from 71 yards out. Both teams punted on their next possession and the half ended on a Riley Backemeyer interception at the EM 22 yard line. We wanted to stop the big play and make Palmyra have to run the ball. We did not align correctly on Bessey’stouchdown and it cost us along with several missed tackles. We were moving the

We were moving the ball well in the 3rd quarter and on a 3rd and 3, we had a back go the wrong way causing a fumble in the backfield. That was costly because on the very next play we had an error in the kicking game giving Palmyra a short field. The mistake led to a 65-yard loss in field position and eventually Palmyra scored to take a 20-15 lead at the end of the 3 rd quarter.We played well the first half but had too many mistakes the 2nd half. We have to clean some things up across the board to get to where we want to be.

The Knights travel to Yutan next Friday for a District matchup. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, September 30th

10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Spirit Squad will be volunteering this year for the Market to Market race as it comes through South Bend, Murdock, and Elmwood.

The race comes to town on Saturday, September 30th, and will bring several thousand people into Elmwood all day and it's a great opportunity to show Elmwood pride and hospitality. This is the 5th or 6th year but everyone always seems to be a surprise when the traffic increases that day.

This year it is on Saturday, Sept 30th - we will likely see runners coming and a lot of vehicle traffic starting around 10 am with it peaking at about 3:00 pm

The next event for the Elmwood Rescue Squad is the arrival of the Waffleman

October 8th at the Firehall from 8am -Noon

Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017

Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017 – The mission is to salute Nebraska Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines: active duty, national guard, reserve, retired and veterans, to say “Thank you for your service to our Nation” so they know the Husker Nation will never forget their sacrifice and dedication.

This is an unprecedented event in the history of military support to the Armed Forces. This weekend hosts troops and their families from all services, of all ranks, to come together and cheer on their team as they play Purdue on October 28th, 2017.

This weekend is more than just a watch party, though. It is a chance for these servicemen and women to be treated like the heroes they are with an all access, private tour of Memorial Stadium and a brunch in their honor.

2017 marks the tenth year for this event. 2008 was the first year held during the OU game and attended by about 70 troopers and their families. Since then we have had to limit our attendance as it has grown to nearly 500 attendees. Each year we try to improve the troopers experience and being our tenth year we are expecting this to be the best.

Dan Witte Student of the Week

Dan Witte Physical Therapy would like to announce a few changes to our annual Student of the Week program.

We continue to look for nominations from local community members, teachers, coaches, athletic directors, or anybody else who would like to nominate a deserving student. The student could be from Conestoga, Elmwood-Murdock, Louisville, or Weeping Water Public Schools.

Please see the criteria below.

Criteria:

1. The student must be an enrolled 7th-12th grade student at Conestoga, Elmwood-Murdock, Louisville, or Weeping Water Schools.

2. The student must participate in at least 1 extracurricular activity outside of normal class work.

3. The student must be nominated by someone outside of their family and be verified by the school before their nomination can be accepted.

4. Nominations are due to the first and third Fridays of the month.

Please send an email to your school athletic director or principal for verification prior to sending it to dan@wittephysicaltherapy.com.5.

Nominations must include the student’s name, parent(s)’ name(s), activities involved in, grade and school attended, and reason for nomination.

Additional information including pictures would be appreciated!

The selected student will be posted on Facebook and Twitter pages belonging to Witte Physical Therapy on Tuesday mornings for consecutive weeks. A post will also be submitted to the weekly newsletters for Murray, Elmwood, Murdock, Louisville, Weeping Water, and Manley on that day for a post on the following Wednesday and that week in the Plattsmouth Journal.

The selected student will have the opportunity to stop by Witte Physical Therapy in Louisville and receive a free t-shirt or water bottle along with their parents.

Cass Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

Cass Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is currently recruiting CASA advocates to speak up for the best interest of abused and neglected children in Cass County.

The next training session is scheduled to begin October 1 and will run for five weeks. The training consists of 15 hours of online training and 15 hours of in-person training.
