Elmwood-Murdock Football

The Freeman Falcons defeated the Elmwood-Murdock Knights 38-16 in a C-2 matchup last Friday night in Elmwood.

The Falcons opened the scoring with an 84 yard TD pass from Jacob Gramann to Blake Kastanek in the 1 st quarter. Our coverage wasn’t bad on the play. Gramann made a perfect throw and Kastanek caught the ball in stride. Gramann is a very accurate passer and we were unable to pressure him throughout the game. Turnovers plagued the Knights throughout the contest as 3 of the 4 Knight turnovers set up Falcon touchdowns.

You can’t give a quality opponent likeFreeman a short field. They were able to capitalize on our mistakes. The Knights had 4 turnovers to Freeman’s 1. I thought we moved the ball well at times. We had a hard time matching up with Freeman’s team speed. Had it not been for the turnovers we would have made it a more interesting game. The full stats can be seen HERE

The Knights will host Wilber-Clatonia at 7:00 p.m. Friday night in Elmwood.

Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017

Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017 – The mission is to salute Nebraska Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines: active duty, national guard, reserve, retired and veterans, to say “Thank you for your service to our Nation” so they know the Husker Nation will never forget their sacrifice and dedication.

This is an unprecedented event in the history of military support to the Armed Forces. This weekend hosts troops and their families from all services, of all ranks, to come together and cheer on their team as they play Purdue on October 28th, 2017.

This weekend is more than just a watch party, though. It is a chance for these servicemen and women to be treated like the heroes they are with an all access, private tour of Memorial Stadium and a brunch in their honor.

2017 marks the tenth year for this event. 2008 was the first year held during the OU game and attended by about 70 troopers and their families. Since then we have had to limit our attendance as it has grown to nearly 500 attendees. Each year we try to improve the troopers experience and being our tenth year we are expecting this to be the best.

We are needing some volunteers to help at the Harvest Moon Hustle after party

Friday, September 15th from 6:00 to 11:00.pm

We will be working at the Elmwood Fire Barn making sure people know where they are going, keeping the tables cleaned up, taking tickets, and whatever else needs to be done.

I did it last year and had a blast! You get to meet a ton of really fun people who have just finished running a long race and are grateful to have a place to sit and relax. There is a band playing so plenty of great tunes and you get dinner before it starts!

And the totally awesome part is that the Harvest Moon Hustle group will make a $400 donation to our park for providing volunteers.

That is what I like to call EASY MONEY! If you are interested let Julie Anderson know or go to the website, click on the register button, and sign up to be a volunteer for the after party.

It will look like you are signing up to be in the race but no worries, it is already full. You are just signing up to be a volunteer. You will have a blast!!

New chapter books for grades 4-7!

Five dragonets are hatched under a mountain, in the care of a group of rebel dragons, the Talons of Peace. They are key to a prophecy that will end the war raging among the dragon tribes. They clearly have a destiny, but no one is sure about the role of Glory, a beautiful Rainwing. She was not one of the original five, but a replacement for an egg that was cruelly smashed in an attempt by power-hungry dragons to thwart the fulfillment of the prophecy. When her life is threatened, the dragonets stage a daring escape from the mountain but are captured by the Skywing queen, Scarlet. She forces them to participate in gladiator like competitions for her amusement.

Each one is eventually forced to fight Peril, her champion, whose very touch is made of fire. A fight with Peril is certain death, and she instills fear in all who meet her-all but the Mudwing dragonet Clay. The two develop a cautious and unlikely friendship. As the dragonets fight to survive, and Clay's relationship with Peril deepens, thrilling secrets of their pasts are revealed. Fully fleshed-out characters have unique personalities influenced by the distinct traits of their tribes. The Louisville Area food bank will have new hours beginning Sept. 7th

The Louisville Area Food Bank will be open on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 6-7 p.m. beginning on Sept. 7th.

The food bank is located at the First Christian Church 304 Main St. next to Copple's in Louisville.Low-income residents are welcome to come to the twice a month give away. Please bring a box to put items in.This food bank is for residents of the Louisville Public School District.

al Therapy would like to announce a few changes to our annual Student of the Week program.

We continue to look for nominations from local community members, teachers, coaches, athletic directors, or anybody else who would like to nominate a deserving student. The student could be from Conestoga, Elmwood-Murdock, Louisville, or Weeping Water Public Schools.

Please see the criteria below.

Criteria:

1. The student must be an enrolled 7th-12th grade student at Conestoga, Elmwood-Murdock, Louisville, or Weeping Water Schools.

2. The student must participate in at least 1 extracurricular activity outside of normal class work.

3. The student must be nominated by someone outside of their family and be verified by the school before their nomination can be accepted.

4. Nominations are due to the first and third Fridays of the month.

Please send an email to your school athletic director or principal for verification prior to sending it to dan@wittephysicaltherapy.com.5.

Nominations must include the student’s name, parent(s)’ name(s), activities involved in, grade and school attended, and reason for nomination.

Additional information including pictures would be appreciated!

The selected student will be posted on Facebook and Twitter pages belonging to Witte Physical Therapy on Tuesday mornings for consecutive weeks. A post will also be submitted to the weekly newsletters for Murray, Elmwood, Murdock, Louisville, Weeping Water, and Manley on that day for a post on the following Wednesday and that week in the Plattsmouth Journal.

The selected student will have the opportunity to stop by Witte Physical Therapy in Louisville and receive a free t-shirt or water bottle along with their parents.

Cass Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

Cass Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is currently recruiting CASA advocates to speak up for the best interest of abused and neglected children in Cass County.

The next training session is scheduled to begin October 1 and will run for five weeks. The training consists of 15 hours of online training and 15 hours of in-person training.
