It's County Fair TIME!!
For the first time in more than 25 years, I will be gone during the county fair and NOT able to attend. It's been a fixture in my summer since I worked for the Greenwood Co-op way back in the early 1990's.
I have entered enter herbs, flowers, photography and my kids entered in the open class division for many years. But this year I didn't enter anything, not even photography.
I will be out of town the majority of the week and will miss the fair. It's going to seem very strange. So...
I need your help. Please send me photos and Elmwood-Murdock news from the fair.
Did your son or daughter win a Grand Champion ribbon, send me a photo.
Did your son or daughter win a Grand Champion ribbon, send me a photo. Did you take a video of the talent show, the hog show, the bucket calf show and post it to YouTube? Send me a link to editor@elmwoodnebraska.com

Quilt Raffle: Last year's special block contest was for quilt blocks using the colors of the Olympics since it was an Olympic year. The blocks were then made into a quilt to be raffled off at this year's county fair. Besides the blocks from the contest, there are 7 blocks which were signed by 2016 Olympic athletes who had Nebraska ties.
Tickets will be for sale at the Fair Expo Building between August 8 and August 12, drawing to occur at 8:00 pm the evening of August 12 in the Expo Building. One does not need to be there. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
If someone wants to buy tickets ahead of the fair, call Ramona Oehlerking at 402-429-8585. May have to leave a message.
Be aware that this year's contest (and next year's raffle quilt) is for 12 1/2" blocks of true blue and white. 2018 fair requirements will be 12 1/2" block of autumn colors.
Nebraska ECLIPSE 2017!!!
(Sponsored by the Elmwood Library)
On Monday, August 21st at approximately 11:25 AM we will find ourselves on the edge of a rare celestial event, a total eclipse of the sun.
This is unique because it will travel through the United States from Salem, Oregon to Charleston South Carolina, dissecting Nebraska from Alliance in the Northwest corner to Falls City in the Southeast tip of the state.

Elmwood is located approximately 4 miles north of the “path of totality”. We will be able to see an eclipse where the moon will almost cover the sun completely.Elmwood Public Library is working with The Elmwood-Murdock School’s science teacher, Laura Stock, to give you the very best information and view-ability possible in our area.
We are planning two events which you and your family can have some hands-on activities to help make these events extra special.
Attend our “Solar Eclipse-2017 Family Night” informational activity at Elmwood Public Library
Monday, August 14th 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Delve into the “facts & fiction” regarding the eclipse.
(There will be crafts and activities for children at both events)
Monday, August 21st 11:00 am - 12:00 noon
Join us at the Library on Monday, August 21st for the “Viewing Party”!
We are still working out the details so please keep checking in for further information!

Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017
Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017 – The mission is to salute Nebraska Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines: active duty, national guard, reserve, retired and veterans, to say “Thank you for your service to our Nation” so they know the Husker Nation will never forget their sacrifice and dedication.
This is an unprecedented event in the history of military support to the Armed Forces. This weekend hosts troops and their families from all services, of all ranks, to come together and cheer on their team as they play Purdue on October 28th, 2017.
This weekend is more than just a watch party, though. It is a chance for these servicemen and women to be treated like the heroes they are with an all access, private tour of Memorial Stadium and a brunch in their honor.
2017 marks the tenth year for this event. 2008 was the first year held during the OU game and attended by about 70 troopers and their families. Since then we have had to limit our attendance as it has grown to nearly 500 attendees. Each year we try to improve the troopers experience and being our tenth year we are expecting this to be the best.
Registration for the 10th annual Husker Fans Salute the Troops is now open to first-time attendees --http://www.huskersalute.org/.

Hi, Elmwood Park Lovers...
We are needing some volunteers to help at the Harvest Moon Hustle after party
Friday, September 15th from 6:00 to 11:00.pm
We will be working at the Elmwood Fire Barn making sure people know where they are going, keeping the tables cleaned up, taking tickets, and whatever else needs to be done.
I did it last year and had a blast! You get to meet a ton of really fun people who have just finished running a long race and are grateful to have a place to sit and relax. There is a band playing so plenty of great tunes and you get dinner before it starts!
And the totally awesome part is that the Harvest Moon Hustle group will make a $400 donation to our park for providing volunteers.
That is what I like to call EASY MONEY! If you are interested let Julie Anderson know or go to the website, click on the register button, and sign up to be a volunteer for the after party.
It will look like you are signing up to be in the race but no worries, it is already full. You are just signing up to be a volunteer. You will have a blast!!
