Open House Recognizing Nebraska Senator Clements
On Sunday the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants Association hosted a congratulations reception for the newest Nebraska State Senator Robert Clements. Executive Director Kurk Shrader hosted the event at the Bess Streeter Aldrich House and Museum.

Governor Pete Ricketts attended the event and gave Rob high praise and called him a ROCK STAR. Below is a video of the event, Rob being taken aback by being called a rock star.
I overheard the Governor state he didn't know it was a formal tie event, as he dressed casual and fit right in, you wouldn't have known he was a politician. Except by his security detail standing on the perimeter all by himself watching.

Peggy Clements was decked out in patriotic colors and was personally thanked by the Governor for her support. Several people took the opportunity to take photos with the Governor and Representative Clements and of course, it's always an honor to get into one of Julie Anderson's selfie photos.
4th of July Celebration
Get your Fireworks locally. Located in Elmwood, across from the Post Office you can buy the latest and greatest pyrotechnics for the 4th of July. If you ever wondered what a certain firework looked like you scan the QR code on the package and watch it before you buy. How cool is that???
Snappers are still 0.50 a box and my favorite are the Killer Bees.
They will be open every day, even July 4th after the Murdock parade. Stop by and take a look. Ask some questions and put together a great display this year. Remember to stay safe and respect your neighbors.

We all have ways within our various organizations to honor and thank individuals who put forth an exemplary effort for the organization. But how do you thank someone who voluntarily puts forth an outstanding effort for the entire community or goes out of their way to help out a neighbor?
Well, the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants’ Association (EMMA) Good Neighbor Award is the answer to your question. This award recognizes individuals who make the Murdock and Elmwood communities a better place to live.
Maybe you have received the Good Neighbor Award yourself—remember the thrill of riding the float in the 4th of July parade, receiving your certificate, or seeing it posted at the Cass County Fair for all to see?
Take time to pay it forward and nominate another deserving community member.
See who won past awards for being a good Elmwood-Murdock Neighbor

Nominations are now being accepted. Forms are available at the EMMA website (elmur.org). The deadline has been extended to Saturday, June 17, so act fast!
Just a reminder that past recipients are not eligible to be nominated again. There are many more out there - let's honor them this year!

It is getting to be that time of the year again. Time to start thinking about fair entries and exhibits.
Quilt Raffle: Last year's special block contest was for quilt blocks using the colors of the Olympics since it was an Olympic year. The blocks were then made into a quilt to be raffled off at this year's county fair. Besides the blocks from the contest, there are 7 blocks which were signed by 2016 Olympic athletes who had Nebraska ties.

Tickets will be for sale at the Fair Expo Building between August 8 and August 12, drawing to occur at 8:00pm the evening of August 12 in the Expo Building. One does not need to be there. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
If someone wants to buy tickets ahead of the fair, call Ramona Oehlerking at 402-429-8585. May have to leave a message.
Be aware that this year's contest (and next year's raffle quilt) is for 12 1/2" blocks of true blue and white. 2018 fair requirements will be 12 1/2" block of autumn colors.
