Village of Elmwood Clean Up Day
June 17, 2017
Last week was Garage Sale Days, and many of us used the opportunity to clean out shed, garages, basements and "stuff' we don't need.
You can either donate the gently used clothing and items to Bits N Pieces, donate books to the library. Or toss it in the dumpsters that will be on West D Street in front of the library.
Remember, no paint, liquids, chemicals, yard waste, or tires.

The Murdock Lions Club, along with the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants Association, Corn Growers State Bank, and the Murdock Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a Community Shredding Day. See the attached flyer.

We all have ways within our various organizations to honor and thank individuals who put forth an exemplary effort for the organization. But how do you thank someone who voluntarily puts forth an outstanding effort for the entire community or goes out of their way to help out a neighbor?
Well, the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants’ Association (EMMA) Good Neighbor Award is the answer to your question. This award recognizes individuals who make the Murdock and Elmwood communities a better place to live.
Maybe you have received the Good Neighbor Award yourself—remember the thrill of riding the float in the 4th of July parade, receiving your certificate, or seeing it posted at the Cass County Fair for all to see?
Take time to pay it forward and nominate another deserving community member.
See who won past awards for being a good Elmwood-Murdock Neighbor

Nominations are now being accepted. Forms are available at the EMMA website (elmur.org). The deadline has been extended to Saturday, June 17, so act fast!
Just a reminder that past recipients are not eligible to be nominated again. There are many more out there - let's honor them this year!
Murdock 4th of July Celebration
Are you getting ready for the 4th of July yet, it's just around the corner. There is the parade in Murdock and then fireworks!
If you have an announcement to add to the 4th of July lists please send them to me at editor@elmwoodnebraska.com and I will insert them into the list of activities.
Yes, there are fireworks in Murdock again, no need to travel any further than our own community.
The rebirth of fireworks in Murdock for the 4th of July celebration started out as just a few neighbors lighting some things off in their own driveways.

But John and Rosetta Stroy got together and decided to join our shows together to make the show even better for their friends and families.
That lasted only 1 year as we decided that the area we were lighting off in was entirely too restrictive and could be dangerous. They then decided to check for permission to light at the ball fields and take up donations to help finance the show and start inviting any and everyone that wanted to come.
John grew up watching fireworks in the same location when we were children and agreed that it would be great to give a good finish to all of the other 4th of July festivities that happen in the normally quiet little community of Murdock!
The show has been an extremely successful venture and continues to gain in popularity each year. Once again this year's show is gearing up and we doubt anyone will be disappointed when we liven up the are with beautiful colors, flashes, sparks, screeches, and some thunderous booms at dusk the night of the 4th to celebrate the birth of our wonderful country!!!!
We would also like to thank ALL of the are business and patrons who contribute by donating so this show can happen. Without those donations, it just wouldn't be possible!

We will do all of this while we do art projects, play games, check out some cool building materials and—of course—read!
