October is coming to a close

Salute to Veterans at St. Paul Methodist Church

Sunday October 30th (THIS WEEKEND!!)

Please make sure to attend the Salute to Veterans service and luncheon on October 30th. There will be displays of local veterans on hand to celebrate their service to our country.

If anyone hasn't heard my husband sing now is your chance. Randy Romine will be singing the National Anthem and God Bless America at the end of the service. He has quite the voice and really doesn't need a mic.

G.A.R. Hall Veterans Museum

IMG 7343sm If you haven't visited the Museum now it the time. You will be very impressed with what Bonnie Brewer has done. Her passion for our veterans, Elmwood history and genealogy really shine.

The G.A.R. Hall may look small from the outside, but I guarantee you will see something new every time you visit.

The museum will be open on Sunday Oct 30th from noon-4pm so make sure to visit and say hello.

You can literally spend hours reading through the historical documents and memorabilia.

There is a series of local activities honoring our veterans between October 30th and November 13th. Be sure to put them on your calendar so you won't miss them.

Both the high school and elementary have a veterans program on Friday November 11 and are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. I try and go every year and am never disappointed.

Elmwood-Murdock Youth Football

The youth football season might be over but the organizers and parents want to thank all that came out and participated in the past season.

The 3rd/4th grade team pictures below were shared by Karen Cawley when they played against Weeping Water.

Thank you Karen. I remember watching my boys play youth football and sports. It's an important phase of a kids life, learning the importance of teamwork and NOT giving up.

It takes dedication of the parents to drive kids to practice, drive to games and rearrange schedules to make programs like this possible.

I've heard there is an elementary youth volleyball team, anyone have photos?

CubScout Park CleanUp

The Elmwood-Murdock Cubscout Pack 360 participated in a park cleanup at Elmwood park on Saturday, October 22nd.

What a great smiling group of boys that probably had a lot of fun running around and challenging each other to see who could find the most trash.

The Dens that participated were the Bear Den and the Tiger Den from Elmwood-Murdock Cub Scout Pack 360.

Elmwood Park Vandalism

It is with great sadness and ANGER that I have to put the following article below such a great outreach and community service announcement.

Julie Anderson reported that sometime AFTER the scouts cleaned up vandals came to the park and trashed several areas. Trash cans were over turned at the basketball court, bags of trash dumped in the Gaga pit...AND the bathrooms vandalized.

I won't show you photos of the bathroom because it is just too gross for general viewing.

If you know anything about this vandalism, saw any of the participants, or have heard anyone bragging please report it to the police, or let Julie Anderson know. A police report has been filed...AND the video surveillance video at the park is being viewed by authorities. It would be better if the guilty parties confessed now.

Let's hope this doesn't discourage the scouts and others from doing good.

This year the annual craft show will be to benefit the Elmwood-Murdock packpack program.

The Backpack program is a statewide program that was started by the Food Bank in Lincoln.

The mission is to help alleviate child hunger in our community by providing hungry children with nutritious and easy to prepare food at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.

Congratulations on the Elmwood-Murdock Football Team!!

It's been a long hard season but we have ANOTHER WIN on the board Brownell-Talbot. It looked like it was a hard fought game back and forth with a final score of 48-33. Justin Drake had over 300 yards rushing and FIVE touchdowns!

What a way to end the season.

The Nebraska Lincoln Student veterans are marching from Lincoln Nebraska to Kinneck Stadium to raise awareness of Veteran suicide. This 344 mile march is coming right through our local communities.

Fall Farce “Funny Money” Running Amok at the Lofte

unknown Manley, NE [September 27, 2016] - The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that its decades-long tradition of showcasing a Fall farce continues this year with Ray Cooney’s hilarious comedy, “Funny Money.”

Henry Perkins, a mild-mannered CPA has found a briefcase full of cash. Assuming that it’s ill-gotten booty, Henry rushes home to grab his wife and two one-way tickets to Barcelona. But, poor Henry is soon beset by not one, but two police detectives investigating unrelated crimes; one involving a dead body thought to be Henry. With the help of his wife and well-meaning neighbors, Henry begins to weave a steady stream of lies that soon spin out of control. His seemingly fortuitous find soon has Henry and his friends rushing down a path of utter chaos.

Starring in the production is Erik Quam of Louisville. His wife is played by Brandy (Palatas) Hall of Papillion. Jamion Biesterfeld of Louisville and Wendy Allen of Plattsmouth star as the neighbors who are dragged into the fray. Rounding out the cast are Jeff Johnson and Tim Sorensen of Elmwood, Giovanni Quezada of Council Bluffs and Guillermo Rosas of La Vista. “Funny Money” is directed by Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water.

Production dates for the show are October 15, 16, 20-23 and 28-30. Thursday through Saturday productions begin at 7:30pm. All Sunday shows are at 2pm. Tickets are $19 and all seats are reserved. Reservations can be made by calling the theater at (402) 234-2553 or by visiting their website, www.Lofte.org.
