Lofte’s Successful Toy Drive for Nebraska Children’s Home Society!
The Lofte would like to thank everyone who participated in the cooperative toy drive with Fat Brain Toys that benefitted the Nebraska Children’s Home Society. Together we donated nearly 100 toys to this worthy organization! The toy drive took place during the three-week run of the play, “Dear Santa.” As nearly 30 children were in the cast of the show, the Lofte thought it only appropriate that a Christmas charity activity benefitting needy kids be part of the production. The NCHS provides pregnancy, parenting and adoption services as well as foster care, teen parenting services and early childhood programming. Founded in 1981 this non-profit organization works for the greater good of children and families in our state.
The winner of the $200 gift certificate to Fat Brain Toys was Mindy Kleven! Mindy has taught math to 6th, 7th and 8th graders at Louisville Public Schools for the past eight years. She has a thirteen-month old son, Noah. “The gift certificate will probably go towards purchasing toys/games for my son and for my classroom.” Mindy took part in the toy drive via the state champion one-act play cast from Louisville. “My husband and I wanted to help local children as well as support our amazing one-act program.” While she hasn’t yet attended a Lofte production, she hopes to very soon.
Thank you all of those who helped to make this toy drive a success. Also thank you to our new sponsor, Fat Brain Toys for coming up with this clever idea to not only promote the Lofte, but do some good at the same time. Finally, we thank Nebraska Children’s Home Society for their good works and wish them luck with their programs in the future.

Bits & Pieces...a little bit of this and a few pieces of that...
Bits and Pieces Thrift Store in Elmwood is a great source for just about anything you might need. They have everything from antiques to flower vases. Clothes to sprinklers. Books to chicken feeders. You name it and you can probably find it there. Bits and Pieces is operated by the Elmwood Christian Church. Kurk and Kris Shrader keep the store stocked, organized, and neat. Several volunteers fill in to run the register and help stock the shelves.
If you have ever brought a donation or made a purchase it was greatly appreciated. You became part of the Elmwood Christian Church's dedication to mission projects and civic groups. Last year 15% of the profits were donated to civic groups. This year the church plans to continue with those donations while assisting additional mission groups.

One Saturday morning a month I get to volunteer. Last Saturday was my day! One of my favorite parts of the day is doing a little shopping myself as I put things away and also visiting with the customers. Quite often I can talk them into taking a selfie with me. Last Saturday I added to my selfie collection.
Jacob Blunt stopped by to say Hi.

The Campbells stopped on their way to a ball game!

I suspect Myrna Bornemeier and I would be trouble if we got together more often!

Pastor E from the Elmwood Christian Church stopped to make sure we had everything handled.

Pat Spellman has such a beautiful smile!

Ranelle Rundquist is a sweetie! We have a blast together.

Darlene just had a birthday and was still feeling like celebrating with a selfie with me!

This time of the year Kurk is busy with his FBLA projects on Saturday so it is fun to see him here!

This is about as close as I could get to Kris for a selfie. She started the day out sorting and pricing items. The pile behind her is ready to be priced and put on the racks.

The pile of trash bags are clothing items that are donated to a facility in Kansas City who will turn them around and pass them on to people who need them. Bits and Pieces also recycles a lot of items.

This was later in the day so you can see a little of how the piles are higher. Kurk and Kris work tirelessly back here to keep the front stocked. A big thanks to them and all the volunteers! You are doing a great thing!
