Eagle Spine and Sport not only sponsored the Dillon Synovec Booster Club Run/Walk on the 4th of July in Murdock but the whole Campbell family participated. Shay finished 3rd in the 1 mile in her division (19 & under) and Jordyn finished 4th right behind her. Brooke also finished 4th in her division. Corey won the 40 and over division while pushing Draven in the stroller. That was a sweet victory! It was an honor for Eagle Spine and Sport to sponsor the event for the Synovec family and they look forward to next year.

Aaron Spracklin Awarded Lofte Scholarship
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley is proud to announce that the winner of its 2014 scholarship for a graduating senior has been awarded to Aaron Spracklin. Aaron is the son of Mark and Melissa Spracklin of Elmwood. He will be attending Hastings College and pursue a major in Music Education this fall.
Aaron is a familiar face on the Lofte stage. He first came to the barn in 2011 as a Freshman when a friend convinced him to audition for ‘Annie.’ Aaron has since appeared in every summer musical and you will see him on stage this year in ‘The Wizard of Oz.’
A couple of Aaron’s favorite roles have been the “Very Friendly Cherokee Indian” in last year’s production ‘The Producers,’ and as the French soldier featured in the silent black-and-white film for 'Singin’ in the Rain.’ “When we filmed that scene, they gave me a sword and instructed me to, ‘Have fun!’”
Aaron says he has many funny memories related to the Lofte. Just a few nights before ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ opened, the water system was finally hooked up to make it rain on stage. “Everyone was eager to finally dance in the rain, but we didn’t know the horrors that were about to come. The stage turned into a lake. Everyone started to slip and slide. It turned into a mine field! By the time we finished the number, only a few of us were left standing. Luckily the only injuries sustained were a sprained wrist and a few bruises.”
Aaron strongly suggests that if anyone is thinking of acting or volunteering at the Lofte, they go for it. “Through all of my adventures at the Lofte, I have met some of the most amazing people. Even when you play a small role, usher or sweep popcorn, you are helping this great Lofte family and helping to give the best experience to our audiences. You will laugh, cry and above all, you will be loved.”
The Lofte family wishes Aaron the very best with whatever his future holds and look forward to him sharing his talents with us for many years to come.

‘King O’ the Moon’ Auditions at Lofte
The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley announces it will be holding open auditions on Sunday, July 20 and Monday, July 21 at 7pm for its upcoming production, ‘King O’ the Moon.’ Depending upon the number auditioning, the process should be completed by 8pm each night. Written by tom Dudzik, ‘King’ is the sequel to ‘Over the Tavern.’ In this story, the Pazinski family has left the conservative 1950s for the rebellious 1960s. Apollo 11 is about to land on the moon and the family has gathered to honor their late father’s memory. A complete cast list can be found on the audition page of www.Lofte.com. The production will be directed by Kevin Colbert. The cast calls for four men and 3 women (ages 20-60). Rehearsals will begin the week of July 28. Production dates are August 30-September 14. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Actors should bring a list of possible schedule conflicts to the audition. Redbird Mission Trip
A local group from the Elmwood and Murdock United Methodist churches went on a Redbird mission trip last week to Beverly, Kentucky. The group consisted of teenagers, children, and adult sponsors. They left on Sunday, June 29th and returned on Sunday, July 6th. Their trek took them to the Abraham Lincoln museum in Springfield, Illinois and to Cincinnati, Ohio to see the Cincinnati Reds take on the Milwaukee Brewers at the Great American Ball Park. Everyone back home looked forward to the updates and pictures of their travels from Owen Kunz on facebook. Owen gives credit for a successful trip to Myrna Bornemeier and Ramona Oehlerking who planned the whole thing plus all the extra activities they were able to do.
I asked Owen if he could give me a write up about the trip from his point of view so I'm going to share it with you...just as he wrote it.
We left early at 6:00am on Saturday June 28, 2014 and drove the first day for 8 hours plus to arrive where we got to stay overnight in Springfield Illinois and the next day we traveled on with a small church service on the bus in the early afternoon. We ended up at our destination later that Sunday evening at the Redbird Mission Work Camp in Beverly Kentucky. Now a little information about the camp. The camp is located in the financially poorest county in the United States. 6 out if the top 10 financially poorest counties in the United States are located in that mountain range that we were in while in Kentucky. The Camp had its 93rd anniversary I believe on July 1st while we were there with the first 2 people coming to work on July 1, 1921. Our group had 2 different jobs. One job being at the work camp and one being at a trailer house about 15-20 miles from the camp. We had to build a 7x14 deck and redo the bathroom. The bathroom floor, hot water heater, shower, sink, and toilet were all replaced. When we finished this project we helped a 21 year old woman with an almost 2 year old little girl get a better environment to live in. The little girl was so excited about our deck she was riding her trike all over it when we arrived to work on the 3rd day. At the work camp the other half of our group worked building the dorms and other miscellaneous jobs that needed to be done. The dorms had to be tiled along with a lot of drywall work. These dorms needed to be completed within the next month because students would be coming in to stay for the year. We were not able to totally complete that project but did quite a bit to get it moving toward done with a new group more than likely taking over the next week. We started home Saturday morning July 5, 2014 staying overnight in Hannibal Missouri. On Sunday morning we took off for home and arrived home Sunday evening It was a good experience for each and everyone of us. Not only to be together as churches and with the other 3 groups there with our group as brothers and sisters in Christ but to serve The Lord. I myself learned to continue to be thankful for what I have and that it is always good to help people, anyone in need. It was a learning experience and also many other things that will be memories forever.

Here is the whole crew at the Redbird Mission. They came, they saw, and they improved. They left there not only knowing they had helped somebody but also with the feeling that they had been helped.

Here's my shout out to a great guy...Norman Brockhoff. He never fails to put a smile on my face. I saw him the other night down at the gas station and he insisted on taking a picture of Millie and me with his new camera. So I ran home and got mine so I could get our picture, too. Oh, the stories he can tell about Elmwood and his wilder days! He always asks me if I'm staying out of trouble and I always tell him No, just like you taught me. You may have seen his picture painted on the wall at the Elmwood C Store. It's the one thing they left of the pictures I painted...because it looks just like him! Very ornery.
