TEAM LANDON....in case you missed it last week...here's an update.
On Tuesday, April 16th, Landon James Shrader entered the world. He weighed 7.1 pounds and was welcomed by his parents, Trenton and Karen Shrader. Landon’s grandparents are Kurk and Kris Shrader and Great Grandpa Charles Shrader.
Landon suffers from an extremely rare condition known as a developmental subdural hygroma. Essentially, the in utero development of blood vessels to the bran didn’t form correctly and allowed plasma to accumulate around his brain. Landon will face numerous physical and developmental deficits and a grave prognosis—that he may not make it to his first birthday. Trenton and Karen are elated to welcome Landon and to celebrate his life for as long as God allows. Trenton is a second year veterinary student at Kansas State University and Karen is employed at a jewelry store in Manhattan.
Trent has been keeping a blog to keep everyone updated on their lives. New this week is that Landon went home! And he took his first trip to grandparents house near Elmwood. Trent is a gifted writer and is very intuitive with his thoughts and words. Some days are good, some not so good. Trent's appreciation for his wife grows every day as does his realization of the preciousness of life. This is a love story with heartbreak and hope and I'm so sorry it is not a tale of fiction. We are all praying daily for this family and look forward to the blog updates. There is little we can do but pray for them and if possible donate to their fund. If you wish, you can go to the LANDON SHRADER FAMILY FUND that has been established to accept donations to contribute to their mounting hospital expenses. The Landon James Shrader savings account has been set up at the American Exchange Bank in Elmwood to also accept donations. Both Trenton and Karen send a sincere thank you for all your thoughts, prayers, and contributions.
Trent's friend, Stephenie Blythe had wristbands made with the logo, "Team Landon" to sell as a fundraiser. Trent is already wearing his "as a reminder of all the lessons Landon teaches me. It's easy to forget to live in the moment and approach the world in a loving way when he's not around so hopefully carrying an emblme of him with me att all times will help remind me." Trent also said the wristbands also stand as a testament to the amazing support and camaraderie we are surrounded by.
