Mike Winter - Using the power of positive thinking to bring on Spring! I think Colleen is in the hot tub.

Mike

What an interesting little snow storm we had last weekend.  What was predicted for a couple weeks ago finally came to us.  Saturday was a beautiful spring day calling for shorts and making people plan their gardens.  I know the news warned us what was coming but it didn't seem possible after such a pretty day.  Yet it started snowing before we even sprang into spring on Sunday morning and kept going all day.

The snow was heavy and wet and and if you ventured outside it would swirl in your face like an annoying gnat.  Even though it was wet and heavy the wind was able to pick it up and swirl it around and make it drift across yards and roads.  It was enough to cause Mr. Novak to declare a Snow Day.  Many people ventured out to take kids to ball games or were trying to get home from visiting family and got stranded.  Better to be stranded than in an accident though.  With news of pileups on the interstate and cars in ditches it was a day I was glad that I could stay home!

The Willey's and Friends Give Back

Saturday morning was a fundraiser for the Down Syndrome Association Foundation at the Christian Church.  Angie Willey organized the event in honor of her son, Ben.  Angie had jewelry, headbands, scarves, stationery, tutus and other craft items for sale.  She is also an ABC Books distributor so those were available, too.  Angie is a certified instructor for Signing Times and had their dvds, cds, and books for sale.  She held a story time with the kids and signed the story as she was readying it.  The Cass County Creative Cats 4-H club brought cookies and snacks and they played games with the kids.  They were able to raise $210 for DSAF that day.

While I was shopping Ben helped me pick out a cd.  What a cutie.  He said it was his favorite so I should have it, too. He's quite the salesman...I bought it.

A special message from Angie:

Thank you to everyone who came and helped support Ben's Brigade today and the DSAF of Nebraska. A special thank you goes out to the Cass County Creative Cats 4-H club for baking some delicious cookies and bars, for helping to entertain the kids, and for helping to clean up afterwords. We really appreciate it!

Gather 1

I did a little shopping in Elmwood this weekend.  At Gather Boutique I saw this display, though this is not my picture, and really liked the chairs.  Jen tells me she painted them with the milk paint that she sells there.  She used to hate painting furniture until she found this paint.  Now she loves it.  I have a few things I want to paint so I'm going to have to get some.  This shopping trip I found a cute fan that I'd been looking for.  And some jewelry.

I did some stopped in at 4th Street Market and picked up some ice cream for Joe and did more talking than shopping this time.  Love looking at the flowers and crafts and Deb's selection of wine.  I managed to avoid the cupcakes but they were beautiful!  I forgot to check out her supply of Watkins though.  Just another reason to go back!

I couldn't pass up a stop to Then & Again.  Kelli just got another truckload of goodies and had rearranged the store so everything would fit.  May favorite chair and loveseat was still there so I snatched it up.  Vince was thrilled because he got to help me bring it home.  You can imagine one of his favorite things to do is move furniture, especially when I want it upstairs.

WALL OF REMEMBRANCE EXHIBIT

This week Monday, March 11- Friday, March 15 the Elmwood-Murdock Public Schools will be hosting the “Wall of Remembrance.”  The wall is a 40 foot long memorial of photos and other memorabilia of those from Nebraska who died in military service while fighting the “War of Terror.”  This is a moving tribute to those 80 Nebraskans who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our nation in the “War of Terror” since September 11, 2001.

The “Wall of Remembrance” is open to the public from 9:00-3:00 daily.  Thursday’s hours will be 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
