The Elmwood-Murdock Volleyball Team won a thrilling five set match to defeat Yutan in last night's Sub-District Final at Valley. Elmwood-Murdock will move on to play Freeman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012, at Waverly High School. The winner of this contest will advance to next week's state tournament at Hastings/Grand Island. I would encourage you to come out to Waverly on Friday and cheer on the Knights.

Elmwood Extravaganza_schedule

You may notice there are a couple new events on the schedule for the Holiday Extravaganza.  The Candy Cane Lane is in the Old Bank Building at the corner of 4th (main) street and D.  Local merchants have decorated for the holidays and turned it into a candy shoppe.  Proceeds from the sale of the candy go to the local Backpack Program.  After the parade they will be offering free hot chocolate.

The Parade of Homes features six of the community's new or remodeled homes.  Buy your tickets at 4th Street Market, Bits & Pieces, Elmwood Convenience Store, Corn Growers Bank, American Exchange Bank or the elementary or high school.  Proceeds will benefit the Booster Club.  The Parade of Homes will be from 1:00 - 4:00 and refreshments for the participants will be served at the Catholic Church from 2:00 - 5:00.

One change to the schedule is that the Soup Supper ends at 7:00 pm.

This is a great time to do some Christmas shopping!  The craft show is always packed with great gift choices and Bits & Pieces will be open.  The grand opening of Then & Again will provide an opportunity to browse new and old items.  The Gather will also be open.  When you walk into the Gather it's like walking into an edition of Country Magazine.  Besides a great selection of wine the 4th Street Market also has handmade crafts, lotions, jewelry, and other gift items.  Plan on making the rounds and shopping for Christmas deals!

Then & Again...

Then and Again will be holding a Grand Opening on Saturday, November 24th, Holiday Extravaganza day!  The newly renovated Masonic Lodge at the corner of 4th and D Street is now a store with a little of this and a little of that.  They have repurposed and used furniture (some old and some newer) like hutches, end tables, dining room tables, bedroom sets, and desks.  There are knick-knacks, candles, purses, and much more!  They also accept items for consignment.  There will also be a man cave called “Lou’s Garage” for the guys to come in and check out.

Ryan and Kelly Anderson have worked long and hard to renovate the Lodge and are excited to start this new chapter.  Make plans to stop in and see what everyone is talking about.  RUTALKIN?

The hours for Then and Now are:

Mondays closed
Tues, Wed, Fri 10am-6pm
Thurs 10-8pm
Saturdays 8-4pm
Sundays 10-2pm

The Fall Festival was a great fun for the kids and also for the parents.  Kids trick or treated at the classrooms and the teachers handed out candy.  There were carnival games in the cafeteria and gym.  Everyone came away with a sugar high and are ready for the real trick or treating to begin.

Mrs. Paulsen not only handed out candy but she also handed out riddles for the kids to answer.  Jordyn was stumped by this riddle. Zackary, our grandson, might want to go to school here now that he knows the Elmwood Murdock teachers hand out candy!

Grandpa Vince brough Zackary to the festival.  He was dressed as a preschooler.  Very convincing...don't you think?

A Bicycle Built for TwoMurdock Church
bike1
It's not too cold yet for an afternoon ride.  He built this bike for him and his wife to ride.  He lost her last year but he still takes it out for a spin.  It's not the same without her.  He has to lean more to the right to keep from falling over.  She was his stabilizer.  Probably in life as well as on a bike ride.
