FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS!!!!
The Elmwood Murdock Knights will be hosting Ponca Thursday, October 25, at 6:00 pm at Elmwood for the 1st Round Game of the 2012 NSAA Football Playoffs. All employees, students, and patrons will need to pay the $7.00 admission price for adults and $5.00 for students. Ponca is a very good team which enters the playoffs 4-4 and has lost all four games to playoff opponents. This should be a very competitive game! Come out and cheer for the Knights!

Award for the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation
The Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation, which promotes the memory, life and writings of the author and sustains the Aldrich home and museum in Elmwood, will receive the Jane Geske award during the 2012 Celebration of Nebraska Books. The ceremony will be on November 3rd, at the Nebraska State Historical Society’s Nebraska History Museum in downtown Lincoln. The event is free and open to the public.
The Nebraska Center for the Book annually presents that Geske award to an organization, business, library, school, association or other group that has made an exceptional contribution to literacy, books, reading, libraries or Nebraska literature.
The award commemorates Geske’s passion for books and was established in recognition of her contributions to the well-being of the libraries of Nebraska. She worked at many libraries throughout her career. She belonged to numerous organizations including being a founding member and president of the Friends of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries and Nebraska Heritage Association. She was a founding member of the Nebraska Center for the Book. She served as president of the Nebraska Library Association. She was a bookseller and life-long book lover. Her connection to the world of art is found in her membership and presidency of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Art Association.
