Singin' in the Rain
Manley, NE [July 6, 2012] - While the weather here in Nebraska is hot and dry, things are cool and rainy down at the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley. A new group of volunteer actors, actresses and orchestra members are hard at work on the familiar old tale, "Singin' in the Rain."
The MGM Classic film which starred Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds has been converted into a stage play. It's the funny tale of a silent film production company in 1920s Hollywood that is making the difficult transition to sound. Heartthrob Don Lockwood (played by Adam Kovar of Lincoln) and Lina Lamont (newcomer Petra Whittier also of Lincoln) are an on-screen romantic sensation. Don's smooth voice transitions nicely into talkies, but Lina's voice . . . well, even after working with a professional vocal coach, she still has a long way to go.
The big surprise in this show? The Lofte is going to make it rain on stage. That's right, folks. We invite you to come enjoy a little bit of rain. Forget the heat while you sit in a nice air conditioned theater, drink a soda pop and enjoy the sights and sounds of 1920s Hollywood.
The production is directed by Kevin Colbert. Musical director and orchestra conductor is Betty Colbert. The beautiful costumes are designed and built by Janet Sorensen. Elmwood and Murdock residents starring in the production include Anna Bornemeier, Lizzy Pegler, Aaron Spracklin, Ross Mumford, Wade Mumford and Alyssa DiPaolo.
"Singin' in the Rain," opens Friday, July 20 and runs July 20-22, 26-29 and August 2-5. Curtain times are 7:30pm Thursday through Saturday. All Sunday performances are 2pm matinees. Tickets for adults are $18, and children are only $10. Call 402.234.2553 to reserve your seats today.

Front row, Petrea Whittier and Becca Stouder. Back row, Adam Kovar and Caleb Schmucker.

Update on the Water Tower:
On July 9 we began refilling the water tower. Once the water tower is full we are required to send two separate samples a couple of days apart to the state for quality tests to be run on them. Once the test results are returned and show they meet the state standards then we can go back to normal. At this time we continue to recommend bottled water for the identified population. The timeframe for everything to be complete is looking like the beginning of next week, depending on how quickly the state gets the test results back to us. If you have any questions please contact Nicole Folden at the Elmwood Village Office.
NPPD YOC employees pay tribute to fallen Marine
I am very proud of my colleagues at the York Operations Center as they paid tribute to a fallen soldier – Lance Corporal Hunter “H.D” Hogan last Friday. Employees showed their appreciation for Hunter’s dedication to the country and reverently acknowledged his family by standing along the highway in front of the YOC as the funeral procession passed by. NPPD and Perennial PPD aerial devices were used to displayed the nation’s flag.
“Being the father and step-father of three Marines and knowing that this could have happened to any of them, I was extremely honored to have had the opportunity to help with this event,” said YOC Distribution Supervisor Mike Damon.
“It was extremely gratifying to see the support our colleagues, alongside Perennial’s, showed to Lance Corporal Hunter “H.D” Hogan and his family as his procession passed by the YOC,” said YOC Construction Services Manager Paul Brune. “A number of spouses also joined in to pay their respects.”
