Time to brag! This is Madi...our granddaughter. She is cheerleader captain at Auburn High School. The Auburn High School Bulldog cheerleaders are the 2012 champions of the Class C nonbuilding/nontumbling large group cheer competition. The competition was in February at the Heartland Convention Center in Grand Island. Go Madi!
So...R U Talkin yet? Ryan and Kelly Anderson have installed a new sign on the old Masonic Lodge building. They've made a new parking lot and are remodeling the inside of the building.
They made a new sidewalk coming down the side of the building. I don't know about you but it makes me want to get out a skateboard and try it out! It looks like there will be a lot to talk about in the near future about this project!
Gale offers voter guidelines for Election Day
LINCOLN – Secretary of State John Gale offered guidelines for Nebraska voters who will go to polling places for the May 15 primary election.
“Going to the polls in Nebraska is easy and convenient,” Gale said. “But there are some simple steps you can take to make sure your voting experience goes smoothly.”
Gale offered the following guidelines for Election Day:
--Check your voter registration and polling place. People can check the status of their voter registration and location of their polling place by contacting their county election office or accessing https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/.
--Change of address. If a registered voter has moved within a county (out of their former precinct) and not updated their registration, the person should go to the polling place associated with their current residence. The person will be required to vote a provisional ballot.
--Be prepared. Before going to the polls, the voter should become informed about the candidates and issues on the ballot. Sample ballots are printed in newspapers and posted on county websites. Mark and take the sample ballot with you to the polling place.
--Conduct at the polls. To maintain proper decorum at the polls, it is requested that people turn off their cell phones.
--Campaigning prohibited. Campaign items such as buttons, stickers and T-shirts are not allowed in a polling place. It is illegal to campaign within 200 feet of a polling site.
--Voter identification. Proper identification will be required at the polling place of people who are newly registered by mail and did not provide identification. These people will be required to provide identification showing their current residence. Identification at the polling place is not required of other voters.
--Nonpartisan voters. If you are registered without a political party affiliation, you will receive the nonpartisan ballot. In addition, nonpartisan voters may request a Republican Party or Democratic Party ballot for U.S. Senate and House races, or they may request a full Libertarian Party ballot.
Polls are open on Election Day from 8 a.m. CDT (7 a.m. MDT) to 8 p.m. CDT (7 p.m. MDT).

Brianne Ross was one of members of the Spirit Squad who was selling flowers last weekend. They set up at Josoff's Fitness Center and Social Hall. They were selling not only flowers but also tomato, pepper and other garden plants.

Have you been to the Garden Junkie Yet?
Melody Stohlmann has opened the Garden Junkie for the third year just north of Murdock on 310th Street. The first week of being open has brought hundreds of visitors from surrounding communities including Omaha and Lincoln. A recent article about the Garden Junkie in the Lincoln Journal Star has helped to promote Melody's venture.
Melody has gone crazy for Mosaics. She will be offering a class in June on Mosaics. I'm already signed up.
Here's proof that anything can be Mosaic'd!
She even has Mosaics for men...made with nuts and bolts and sparkplugs.
The Garden Junkie is a great place to pick up flowers and plants for your garden. Melody is an expert gardener and can help you pick out the perfect selection.
I just love this! Makes me want to weld something.
I don't know who drank all of this wine but it makes a great yard ornament. Anyone want to help me drink the wine so I can make one of these? I'm thinking yard art and Joe would be thinking target practice!

Elmwood/Murdock communities encouraged
to participate in Letter Carriers’ Food Drive Saturday, May 12
One billion pounds and counting as food drive marks its 20th year
Letter carriers will hold their annual food drive on Saturday May 12. Elmwood/Murdock area residents are encouraged to participate by placing non-perishable food items in bags, and leaving them by their mailbox before mail delivery on May 12. All the food collected will go to local community food banks and pantries.
This is the 20th year for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, which has collected more than one billion pounds of food since its inception. Last year generous Americans donated more than 70 million pounds of food.
Examples of non-perishable items include: canned soup, canned meats, canned vegetables, fruits and juices, boxed goods (such as cereal), pasta and rice. Do not donate items that have expired or are in glass containers.
The Elmwood/Murdock Post Offices will also have a food drive bin set up in its lobby on Saturday, May 12, and every day of that week before, so customers can drop off their canned and non-perishable food items.

According to the most recent USDA Food Security Report, nearly 49 million Americans live in food-insecure households – including more than 16 million children.
This is a great opportunity to help those in our community who are struggling to put food on the table.
The food drive is part of a nationwide drive designed to fill food bank pantries through the summer months, when levels are traditionally low. The effort by members of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Rural Letter Carriers and other volunteers is the largest one-day food drive in the nation.

May 10 – S.O.S. Meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the elementary lunch room.
May 18 –Sixth grade students visit the middle school
May 22 – Last day of school – Field Day from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. – We will not serve hot lunch the S.O.S. will provide lunch for the students on the last day of school. We will serve burgers, carrots, bananas, milk or juice, and a cookie. Students may bring a cold lunch if they choose. We also will not serve breakfast on the last day of school.
NO ELEMENTARY LUNCHES OR BREAKFASTS WILL BE CHARGED AFTER WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 2012.
Students that have a negative lunch account and do not have a cold lunch will not be allowed to charge a hot lunch or breakfast beginning Thursday, May 17, 2012 through Monday, May 21, 2012 . We also will not charge breakfasts. Students that have a negative lunch account and have not brought a cold lunch will be given a sandwich and milk and their parents will be contacted. (The cost of the milk and sandwich is $1.00.) All accounts and fines must be paid by May 22, 2012. Report Cards and PowerSchool will not be made available until all accounts are paid. ELEMENTARY BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP
The elementary boys basketball camp will be June, 25, 26 and 27 at the Murdock Gym from 1:30 to 3:30pm. It is for boys in grades 3rd – 6th in the fall of 2012. If you need a registration form they can be found on the Elmwood-Murdock website.
SUMMER ENRICHMENT
We will again be offering Summer Enrichment classes for elementary students this summer. We have scheduled June 11-28 Monday-Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for the classes Please return the forms to the office as soon as possible if you are interested in having your child attend the classes. More forms are available in the office. All forms need to be turned in by May 11, 2012. WE NEED TO HAVE THESE FORMS TURNED IN SO THAT WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE ENOUGH STUDENTS ENROLLED TO OFFER THE CLASSES.

OXBOW JUNIOR VET CAMP
Information has been sent home regarding the Oxbow Junior Vet Camp that will be held at the Elmwood-Murdock Elementary School on July 9-12 from 8:00-4:00 p.m. This camp is for students completing 2nd – 5th grade.
There is also an Oxbow Intermediate Camp for students completing 6th – 8th grades that will be held at UNL East Campus and Iowa western Community College. See brochure for more details.

LABELS FOR EDUCATION
We would like to thank all of the people that have been sending Campbell’s Labels for Education to the school. We recently purchased 12 assorted playground balls for our students and some stacking cups for Mr. Warner and the physical education department. Last semester we were able to purchase electric pencil sharpeners and stacking cups. Thanks again, and keep the Campbell’s Labels coming.
