Bend, stretch, run!!! Why is everyone exercising?
You may have noticed some activity around town lately. People walking, jogging, doing lunges in the park. What is behind all of this passion for exercise? It is the Josoff’s Summer Shape Up Challenge. Shannon Josoff has challenged anyone interested to compete in the Shape Up Challenge. For 12 weeks there are almost 50 people who are living for the adrenalin rush that comes with exercise and eating right. It is nothing but exercise, eating healthy, and getting into shape. They are doing 100 of each of these a day: push ups, squats, lunges, body rows, hip extension, sit ups, bicycles, burpees and either a 1 mile walk/jog or a 3 mile walk/jog. If you have to ask what a burpee is then you have never taken an exercise class with Shannon. They are a wonderful little exercise that is a favorite of everyone who tries them. (that was totally sarcastic!) But at the end of the 12 weeks these people will be looking fine!
You may have noticed your facebook friends chatting about their accomplishments and virtually high-fiving each other to encourage more successes. It may be your neighbor or even your spouse running, lunging, and burpeeing, it may even be you! I would recommend you stay out of their way, cheer them on, and keep the water flowing for them. If you are interested in joining the challenge stop in at Josoff’s Fitness Center and talk to Shannon. She would be glad to help you feel the burn.

FIDDLE FABLES
The Schoolhouse Performance Series will feature championship fiddler, Deborah Greenblatt, and multi-instrumentalist, David Seay performing "Fiddle Fables" on Sunday, May 13, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska. With the help of her fabulous five-string fiddle, and some talented fiddle students, Deborah Greenblatt explores some of the trials, tribulations, and lessons that fiddlers and other musicians often have in common. There is advice for the beginner (“It Starts With Your Feet”), advice for the fiddler’s families (“Have Mercy”), for the growing fiddler (“Shopping For a Fiddle Blues”), for the brave fiddler (“I’m Gonna Fiddle In a Contest”), as well as the fiddler who plays the viola (“Out of Fiddle, Out of My Mind”). There are also inspiring stories of real-life fiddlers (“Cactus Pete”), teachers (“Alice Johnson’s Jig”), and students (“Mary Ann the Fiddler”).The concert will be followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers. Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students & seniors, and $1.00 for children. For more information, call 402-275-3221, log on to www.greenblattandseay.com, or e-mail debby@greenblattandseay.com. The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990. Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.

Attention Area Farmers: Elmwood-Murdock Schools have been nominated to apply for a grant
through a Monsanto Fund, called, “America’s Farmer Grow Rural Education”. It is a locally focused

farmers to nominate a public school district to compete for grants of either $10,000 or $25,000.
At this time we are asking for your assistance in continuing the nominating process. The
more nominations we receive the greater the chance we will have of receiving the grant. You

American Exchange Bank, the convenience store at Elmwood, both the Elementary School in
Elmwood, and JR/SR High School in Murdock, and the Elmwood and Murdock Post Offices.
