Irish Music Concert at Greenblatt & Seay's

Greenblatt & Seay's Schoolhouse Performance Series features a concert of Irish music on Sunday, March 11, at 2:30 PM.   Greenblatt & Seay & Friends will be singing and playing a variety of instruments, including fiddle, pennywhistle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, and banjo. Traditional Irish tunes will be featured, along with some Greenblatt & Seay originals inspired by the great Irish traditions.

Greenblatt & Seay have been playing and singing together since the night they met, decades ago.  Their performance on March 11 will include the championship fiddling styles of Deborah Greenblatt, and the fancy whistle-playing of David Seay.

The concert will be followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers.  Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur,  one mile south of Highway 34.  Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students & seniors, and $1.00 for children.  For more information, call 402-275-3221, log on to www.greenblattandseay.com, or e-mail debby@greenblattandseay.com.

The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990.  Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.

BLOOD DRIVEThursday, March 15, Elmwood-Murdock High School will host their annual spring blood drive to raise scholarship funds through the American Red Cross Scholarship Program.

Last year, Elmwood-Murdock received $250 in scholarship funds, while helping many patients across southeast Nebraska.  Approximately 1,000 units of life-saving blood products are needed every week for emergencies, cancer treatments and surgeries.  Blood drives are vital in helping the Red Cross meet those needs.  All high school blood drives meeting goal are eligible for scholarship monies which are awarded in the spring.  Last year’s scholarship recipient was Kolbi Furgerson.

Faculty, staff and family are encouraged to join students in support of Elmwood-Murdock High School and help raise scholarship funds.  The March 15th drive will be from 2:30pm to 7:00pm.  To sign up for an appointment, contact Deanna Vavak at 867-2341 or at dvavak@esu3.org.  Walk-ins are also welcome.
