ELMWOOD
By Ahlene Fitch
(1908 - 1992)
Out here in Nebraska
Along the old M.P.
There lies a little hamlet
That's all the world to me.
It's not a noisy city,
On the map it's just a dot,
But in all of God's creation
It's the brightest, dearest spot.
In your mind's eye you see it,
As it nestles on the hill,
In all its simple beauty
So peaceful, sweet and still.
Some move away and leave it,
To seek a life of ease,
And they wonder o'er the country
And sail the seven seas.
And they hunt and chase the rainbow,
Till their hair like driven snow,
Till their eyes are dim and misty
And their step is weak and slow.
But in all their weary travels,
They find no place so good,
As this dear old fashioned village
This town of ELMWOOD.
There the verdure has a deeper green,
The sky a deeper blue,
Here friendships take a deeper root,
And life a deeper view.
It's a place where friends are legion,
And where they're true and blue.
It's here the joys are many,
And the heartaches very few.
It's here that friendship grasps your hand
With a grip that's firm and strong,
And they strive with all their might,
To right your every wrong.
It's a place that makes good better,
It's a place that makes bad good,
It's a place of God's own people,
Is this town of ELMWOOD.

A couple articles from 1907 that perhaps hold true for today as we prepare for the 125th Birthday Celebration and want to put our best foot forward:

CYSTIC FIBROSIS FUNDRAISER
The Elementary Student Council raised $867.65 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. During our fundraising, we held a bake sale and sponsored a Hats On Day. We made $250 at our Bake Sale and raised $617.65 with our Hats On Day.
Students paid fifty cents to wear a hat on Friday, April 15. There were prizes awarded to the best homemade hat in each class. Winners were: Isabelle Halferty, Ethan Rohlfs, Rylan Kastens, Shay Campbell, Audriana Romero, Cody Kopf, Rylee Hogue, Zane Rikli, Jordan Keene, Andy Meyer, Valerie Miller, Riley Backemeyer, Drew Pegler and Wyatt Brummer. Wyatt Brummer also won the award for the best homemade hat overall.
The classes that raised the most money were able to choose a teacher to be slimed in front of the school. The slime was liquid Jell-O. Mrs. Oehlerking class won in the Pre-School to Second Grade competition and chose her. Mrs. Paulsen's class won in the Third to Sixth Grade competition and chose her. Each student in both classes got to help slime the teachers. Also, because we did so well and he is such a good sport, Mr. Friedrich volunteered to let the Student Council slime him. It was a great time for a great cause!

The Hat Winners!

Mrs. Paulsen gets slimed!

Mr. Friedrich was a stand up guy and took the sliming like a man...a man in a garbage bag.

Mrs. O loved it!

Post Prom Party Really wasn't a Snoozer!
The Post Prom Party Committee had been working hard since last fall to ensure the kids had a great time. They arranged for coach buses to drive the kids from Murdock to the Prom dinner/dance and then to the Cooper YMCA. They could play basketball, swim, climb the rock wall, eat, and there were lots of Minute to Win It Games. Those proved to be the most fun of all! A big thanks to everyone who worked on the committee and supported the effort throughout the year. It was worth all the hard work!

Luke Althouse had just had enough fun and needed a little nap before hitting the pool for a swim.

Cherissa Behrends and her date enjoyed the food. There were sandwiches, chips, fruit, and candy!

Lauren Bowman balances dice on a popcycle stick in her mouth.

AJ Nichols was playing the Cookie on the Forehead game and managed to get it in his mouth in record time!

Eli Philson talks his buddy, David Hromanik through the strategy of the cup game.

Shannon Ronhovde balances 8 Ding Dongs on her forehead in the Chocolate unicorn game.

Sammie Olson silently cheers on Rebecca Fortney. The concentration on Becca's face says it all.

Kalee Brewer balanced the stack of nuts.

Eli Philson and David Hromanik prepare to scale the wall.

Erin Dwyer plays the Stack a Cup Game.
