Elmwood Library Receives Grants
In 2023, the Elmwood Public Library has the goal of improving and increasing the size of the youth non-fiction section. Unfortunately, some of the non-fiction books on the library shelves are nearly 70 years old. So, Library Director Anne Pope applied for and has been awarded three nice-sized grants to help re-vamp the collection!
Nebraska Library Commission awarded 2 grants to EPL. These grants are financed with funding made available through the Nebraska Legislature and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Youth Grants for Excellence, $1,500
Library Improvement Grant $2,000
Penguin Random House Publishing also approved a grant for the project This was a specific grant for small & rural libraries for $500 of in-kind books selected from their inventory. Elmwood was one out of only 46 libraries chosen nationwide (and one of 3 in our state) to receive this award.
In all, our library won about $4,000 to invest in non-fiction books including biographies, histories and geographies!
In addition to the non-fiction gifts awarded, your town library was specially selected to receive a collection of 100 children’s picture books from the Brownstone Book Fund. This private foundation out of New York City works to foster an early love of books and encourage parents and children to read together.
In all, the library staff estimates the on-site inventory at the Elmwood Public Library will increase by 300 free books before year’s end!
The Elmwood Library serves the areas of Elmwood, Murdock, and Eagle.
It’s open Monday through Thursday and Saturday mornings as well.

Village Board Meeting
Board meetings are open to the public and are held every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
The meetings are held at the new Village Board office located at the Learning Center on the south side of town.
Official agendas are posted the day before at the Post Office, Gas Station, and Village Office. Prior to the posting of the agenda, meeting items can be added to the meeting. At the end of each meeting is a Public Comment Section. Attendees have three minutes to speak about anything at this time. Further discussion on the topic can then be added to the next board meeting.
The agenda is posted at the Elmwood C-Store, the post office, and the Village office.
Minutes can be viewed at the Village office or can be found online.
Wouldn't it be amazing if the board meetings were FULL every time? This is your opportunity to be involved, be "in the know" and learn how to influence how your community grows, how improvements can be made, and how you can participate in the steps needed to MAKE IT HAPPEN.
