National Banned Books Week 2022 will be held September 18 – 24.

The theme of this year’s event is “Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us.” To honor this, the Elmwood Library will be celebrating the freedom to read during the whole month of September!

Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. It highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

We invite you to the library to pick up a game card and play, “BANNED BOOK BINGO!” See how many banned books you’ve read and leave the entry card at the library. Winners will be announced at the end of the month. You may walk away with a gift certificate, or at the very least, become famous as one of Elmwood’s MOST WANTED CRIMINALS!

Market to Market Relay
The Market to Market Relay happens on Oct 8 this year. If your organization would like to earn up to $650 in funds by staffing an exchange point, contact ben@pinkgorillaevents.com.
The work involves committing a group of 10 volunteers to direct traffic, and people, usually for a 6 hour span at a local location.
On the day of M2M, we sell Sandwich Packs to racing teams and the funds go to Pie Ride Music and promotions of local trail events.
If you can volunteer to help, please message me. This work involves one team in the morning to make all the sandwiches and packs, and one team to staff the concession stand from 10-3.
Thank you!

Village Board Meeting
Board meetings are open to the public and are held every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
The meetings are held at the new Village Board office located at the Learning Center on the south side of town.
Official agendas are posted the day before at the Post Office, Gas Station, and Village Office. Prior to the posting of the agenda, meeting items can be added to the meeting. At the end of each meeting is a Public Comment Section. Attendees have three minutes to speak about anything at this time. Further discussion on the topic can then be added to the next board meeting.
The agenda is posted at the Elmwood C-Store, the post office, and the Village office.
Minutes can be viewed at the Village office or can be found online.

Wouldn't it be amazing if the board meetings were FULL every time? This is your opportunity to be involved, be "in the know" and learn how to influence how your community grows, how improvements can be made, and how you can participate in the steps needed to MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Shooter Jaxx Headlining Weeping Water’s Party On the Rocks Fall Festival
WEEPING WATER, Ne — September 6, 2022 — The Revitalization Association of Weeping Water (RAWW) invites the community and visitors to enjoy music, food, and fun at the Party On the Rocks Fall Festival in Weeping Water on September 24th.
The festivities kick off with the Flea Market on Elm Street, featuring vendors and food trucks on Elm Street and indoors at Gibson Hall from 11 am to 5 pm.
RAWW and other community groups are hosting events throughout the day, including a cornhole tournament, beer garden, sidewalk sales, pumpkin painting, and dock dedication.
The Weeping Water Valley Historical Society will host a day full of events, starting with Humanities Nebraska presenter David Seay’s Train Songs & Tales at Memory Lane, next the Haunting of Fate House, a kid-friendly haunted house at the Heritage House complex, and finally a presentation and Q & A session with D.A.M.M. Ladies of the Paranormal.

The party continues in the evening with Shooter Jaxx and Nate Keim. With roots in alt-country and southern rock, Shooter Jaxx’s gritty, hard-rocking shows have graced music festivals and street dances across the Midwest and far as Austin, Texas. Touring in support of their most recent EP “Southbound,” they’ve shared the stage with The Steel Woods, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Logan Mize, Black Stone Cherry, Them Dirty Roses, and Blackhawk. Hailing from western Nebraska, country and Americana singer-songwriter Nate Keim and his band will kick off the show at 8 pm on Eldora Avenue.
Flyers with locations of times of events will be available at area businesses soon.
