Special Library Visitors
Barb LaDuke and Kami Voboril of the Deborah Avery DAR Chapter in Lincoln recently visited the Elmwood Public Library.
They installed a beautiful Patriot Tree for our community to enjoy
If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Lincoln Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Barb and Kami invite you to visit dar.org.
Documented proof of your lineage is required, but they have volunteers who are willing to help with that!
We’ve already had so many people enjoy the beautiful tree this summer. (Boys and girls keep asking if Santa is making a summer visit this year!)
We hope you can stop by and have some fun with this new bedazzlement as well! Thank you so much, Barb and Kami!

NEBRASKA FCCLA MEMBERS RECOGNIZED WITH SUCCESS AT NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
More than 7,000 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) student members, advisers, and guests gathered at the San Diego Convention Center, June 29- July 3 to participate in the annual National Leadership Conference (NLC). The conference provided members opportunities for listening to inspiring speakers, attending youth workshops, competing on the national level, and networking with other youth leaders.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Make It Count,” which inspired attendees to share how they make it count while exploring career opportunities, developing leadership skills, and growing personally while making a difference in their families and communities. “We are thrilled to have an attendance of over 7,000 members, advisers, corporate partners, and guests who are committed to discovering the unlimited possibilities available through FCCLA.
The relationships and skills developed during this conference have inspired students to make a difference in their own communities and to make every moment count,” said Sandy Spavone, Executive Director of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
In addition to the many learning and networking experiences offered at the conference, more than 30 Family and Consumer Sciences related competitive events, also known as STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events. STAR Events aim to support student development of knowledge and skills by enhancing the classroom experience and career pathway initiatives by equipping students with employable skills and industry insights needed to thrive in the 21st century.
FCCLA members choose what STAR Event they would like to compete in with events ranging from Early Childhood Education, Entrepreneurship, and Sports Nutrition to Fashion Design, Job Interview, and Culinary Arts. STAR Events are competitive events in which members are recognized for their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. Of the 3,900 competitors, Nebraska had 185 participants who came home with 79 Gold medals, 95 Silver medals, and 11 Bronze medals. There were 57 Top Ten award-winning events.
Elmwood Murdock FCCLA member, Harrison Koehn, competed at the conference in the STAR event, Teach and Train. Harrison received a gold medal and 11th place overall in Level 2 Teach and Train. This is Harrison’s second time competing at the national level. In 2020 he also competed virtually in level 1 Teach and Train.
Michael Hynes of the Elmwood Murdock chapter also attended the conference to learn more about FCCLA and develop leadership skills. He did not compete at this conference.
Elmwood Nebraska Bike Share
The Bike Share program has started back up again.
Anyone wanting to borrow a bike can sign one out during Bits and Pieces business hours.
Village Board Meeting
Board meetings are open to the public and are held every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
The meetings are held at the new Village Board office located at the Learning Center on the south side of town.
Official agendas are posted the day before at the Post Office, Gas Station, and Village Office. Prior to the posting of the agenda, meeting items can be added to the meeting. At the end of each meeting is a Public Comment Section. Attendees have three minutes to speak about anything at this time. Further discussion on the topic can then be added to the next board meeting.
The agenda is posted at the Elmwood C-Store, the post office, and the Village office.
Minutes can be viewed at the Village office or can be found online.
Wouldn't it be amazing if the board meetings were FULL every time? This is your opportunity to be involved, be "in the know" and learn how to influence how your community grows, how improvements can be made, and how you can participate in the steps needed to MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Dear Avoca friends near and far!
The Avoca Town Hall has been a big part of the Village for many years. Without it many people would be at a loss on where to gather for village events and many other occasions.
The last couple of years have been a struggle due to covid cancellations, funds are short. The Hall is in major need of repairs. Board members are working on raising money to help cover the cost of repairs that need to be made.
1. New Roof
2. Masonry work on the front of the building
3. Replacement of Deck
4. General Maintenance.
If you would like to help in our efforts to save the Town Hall we
would very much appreciate any monetary donation towards our goal of
$25,000.
How to donate:
