What Does 2020 Look Like to You?
January is the perfect time to review what you did last year and make the changes you want to make for the upcoming year. It shouldn't surprise anymore but it's really amazing how vibrant and active our Elmwood community is on a monthly and weekly basis.

January Quilting Meeting

Optional Group Project
Mickie Clements and Peggy Clements are leading this at our upcoming quilting meeting. It’s an awesome organization that provides quilts to veterans.
For our first meeting, we will be working on a project for the Quilts of Valor. Check out govf.org for more information on the mission. We will make a quilt for a veteran. "The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor."
Please bring red, white, and/or blue fabric of any type and size. It can even have patterns.

2. Your mat, rotary cutter, and ruler
*** if you do not want to participate, please bring your own project to work on.
New Elmwood Book Club
Elmwood is full of book lovers and the first book club reading is Enslaved by Ducks.
It sounds like a lot of fun and who hasn't been taken over by a project only to have it grow out of control?
Ten books are being ordered for the first meeting on January 27th at 6:30 pm

Elmwood-Murdock Walking and Running Club
January mile/step challenge with the Elmwood/Murdock walking/running/biking group during the month of January.
You can use the Facebook page to encourage each other and stay motivated.
You can record steps or miles walk or ran-they enter their own goal on a team spreadsheet within the Facebook page. Over 100 people have joined the Facebook group so there is interest in all ages. What a great way to get healthy and stay healthy.

The Wellness Committee with the United Methodist Church is hosting a FREE community event about decoding nutrition labels!
Ever glanced at a nutrition label not sure what to even look for? Are you looking at the calories and fat, and that’s it?
There is so much important information that can be found on the nutrition label that you may be missing if you don’t know what to look for. Join Kelly Nuño, Nutritional Therapist, to learn all of the useful information that you SHOULD be looking for before buying your food!

It's easy to get a library card and borrowing electronic books can be done on your tablet or Kindle. It's an easier process. Anyone can be a library member. Even if you live in another town or state. Did you grow up here and want access to thousands of free books.
It's just $10.00. Really. When you are visiting stop by and find out how to become a member.

TYLER MARLATT
ELMWOOD MURDOCK HIGH SCHOOL
This week our Student of the Week Winner is Tyler Marlatt. He is a senior at Elmwood Murdock High School. His activities include football, basketball, track, FBLA, and student council. He is the son of Randy and Susan Marlatt.
He was nominated for these reasons:
He is a leader through his actions more than his words
He has been a positive role model both in and out of the classroom
He is kind, considerate, and respectful
He is a student I truly trust and admire

Short Story Contest
Generate a fictional short story that is written in the wholesome spirit displayed by Bess Streeter Aldrich in her works while incorporating a theme that focuses on Nebraska’s family life, economy, history, cultural diversity, and/or geography (past, present, and/or future). Writers are encouraged to focus on historical and/or realistic topics. This year the Aldrich Foundation is paying tribute to Mrs. Aldrich’s book Spring Came on Forever and it would be an excellent resource.
