Living Nativity

There is only ONE MORE weekend to enjoy the Living Nativity. Make sure to check out the new baby goats, baby calves and baby kittens who wander the barn. The kittens are a delightful surprise as they crawl under a stall wall to listen to the telling of the Christmas story through with a donkey or goat as a story starter.

You can even enjoy a cup of hot cocoa and have a little snack as the kids climb on the photo op camel. (you will have to stop by to see the camel. I didn't get a picture of it this year.
The Living Nativity in Murdock Nebraska is the only one in the state. It is quickly becoming an annual tradition with local families. This year there are several new additions. T

Bess Streeter Aldrich House and Museum
If you haven't seen the Christmas trees and decorations at the Bess Streeter Aldrich House then get there this weekend or next.

The Journey into Christmas starts outside with a reminder of what Christmas is all about.

I love Christmas ornaments, and in fact, I'm a little obsessed about them. So enjoy the wonderful ornaments that adorn the trees. Better yet. stop by this Saturday or Sunday, slow down and enjoy them yourself.

There are trees of every variety, including a few through back trees to the 1950s.

Christmas gives you the excuse to slow down, take a deep breathe and relax. Life can be too hectic and stressful. Spend some time at the Journey Through Christmas and be reminded of an earlier time when we were not so rushed and stressed during the holidays. People spent time with their families and slowed down.

Each room is decorated with a different theme and a different organization and business sponsored and designed a tree.

Holiday Hours

Holiday Extravaganza
The Holiday Extravaganza was just too big and too spectacular to confine to just one week. So throughout Christmas, I will be sharing the joys of Christmas Through Elmwood.

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard this past year to see this gorgeous gazebo become a reality. Next year promises some very exciting events on the "great lawn". If you would like to be on the "cultural committee" or parks events committee please email editor@elmwoodnebraska.com

I couldn't help but include more photos of the Starry Knight parade. It's a great way to cap off the festive day.

It may be a cold night, but the kids in the EM Future Business Leaders of America club didn't seem to mind. Just get dressed up in hoodies and sing some Christmas carols to keep warm.
David Seay and the Train Songs
The Elmwood Methodist church-sponsored David Seay and his entertaining Train songs and tales. Thank you to Bre Romero for taking the video and being my secondary reporter for the day.

Short Story Contest
Generate a fictional short story that is written in the wholesome spirit displayed by Bess Streeter Aldrich in her works while incorporating a theme that focuses on Nebraska’s family life, economy, history, cultural diversity, and/or geography (past, present, and/or future). Writers are encouraged to focus on historical and/or realistic topics. This year the Aldrich Foundation is paying tribute to Mrs. Aldrich’s book Spring Came on Forever and it would be an excellent resource.

Youth groups and other civic groups do litter pick-up, sponsor Easter egg hunts, collect food for those less fortunate and meet for crafting, among lots of other events.
Be sure to check the calendar to the right for upcoming events, also.
