Elmwood-Murdock Take Care of Their Own and Their Neighbors
Two fundraisers this weekend brought many people out to help good causes. Elmwood native and son of Kurk and Kris Shrader, Trent Shrader and his wife, Karen, have a son, Landon, with serious physical challenges that have exhausted their resources. A BBQ feed Saturday night planned by the FBLA kids from Elmwood Murdock provided an opportunity for everyone to meet Landon and donate to help the family. Kurk Shrader is the FBLA sponsor at the Elmwood Murdock High School but the kids surprised him with the fundraiser. The kids planned activities such as bingo, a silent auction, and pumpkin painting.
Trent and Karen with Landon
Kurk and Kris Shrader with their kids...Trent with his wife, Karen and son, Landon. And their daughter, Mikaela Collins and her husband, Brandon with daughter Sophie.
Briauna Walling, Marti Ita, and Hannah Smith sold T-shirts and bracelets to raise money.
If you would like to order a t-shirt click here for the order form.
Katie Meyer and Jenna Meyer...no relation...took donations at the door and greeted people.
The Root Beer Float girls kept pouring all night!
Kinley Dorr painted a pumpkin and showed the other kids how it was done.
A big thank you from the Shrader's and the FBLA Club to everyone who came out and supported the effort. It is a great evening and Trent and Karen were overwhelmed with the support.
Waffleman Sunday!
Sunday morning dawned bright and clear for the Waffleman. He started serving waffles at the Elmwood Fire Station at 8:00 am and continued until people stopped coming. Proceeds from the event are being donated to the Weeping Water Rescue Squad. They lost an ambulance and EMT last June in a head on collision on Highway 34. The Elmwood team wanted to help out by donating the proceeds from the Waffleman fundraiser. Neighbors helping neighbors.
Channel 10/11 covered the event. Click here if you would like to watch the story.
The Waffleman had to work to free this waffle.
Jacob Blunt served up the whipped cream.
Collin Rice attacked his waffle with gusto!
Ty Racin Rice thought the waffles were ok but the sausages were the best!
WAFFLES!!!!!!! AND SAUSAGE!!!!!!! Good times.
The fire trucks were moved outside for the morning.
The Waffleman trailer tells everyone just what is going on at the Fire Station!
Another huge Thank You to everyone who came out and enjoyed the waffles and the great company. The Elmwood Rescue felt very strongly that the proceeds be donated to the Weeping Water Rescue Squad and the community supported that effort.
