The weather provided a beautiful day and ideal conditions for the 4th Annual ElMur Fest held in Elmwood on Saturday September 8th. There were many exciting events happening throughout the day. The annual festival is put on by the Elmwood Murdock Merchant’s Association, with sponsorship dollars provided by many local companies.
99 semi-pro bike riders came from eight states and as far as New Hampshire came to race in the “ElMur” Nebraska State Road Race Championship. A $2000 cash prize was paid out across multiple categories. The Race is the season finale for Nebraska Cycling Federation and State Champion medals were awarded.

The Men’s category 1-2-3 race was 75 miles long. The top finishers were:

3 - Cody McCullough - Sioux City, IA
The Men’s Category 4, Men’s Masters (35+) and Women’s Category races were 55 miles long. Top finishers were:

The Men’s category 5 race was 35 miles long. The top finishers were;

3 - Udo Gruber - Omaha, NE
The kid’s had their own bike race. The kid’s bike race winners were
Grade 3: 1st place John Willey, 2nd- Abby Meyer, 3rd - Jayden Hile, 4th – Bryson Jones.
Grade 5: 1st - Josh Dill-Haas, 2nd - Owen Kunz, 3rd - Patrick Hynes.
The Booster Club sponsored “Fear Fest” for middle schoolers and eight teams competed in wacky, weird and challenging games. The field of 8 teams was cut down to 4 semi-finalist teams and then finally two teams in the championship face off. The winning Fear Fest team included Alyssa Brown, Shanie Delisle, Savanna Schwaller and Kimberly Bracken.
Ivory Green of Elmwood won the grand prize of a new bike from Scheels of Lincoln.
The FBLA ran games for the kids on “Guitar Hero”, “Dance Revolution”, “Bungee Basketball” and a bounce house. The crowd of children was visited by “ElMur” the elephant who’ soft inflated body was embraced by many kids.
Elmwood Postmaster Rose Dankleff and Murdock Postmaster Angie Friesell were on hand to present the collectable “ElMur Fest” postage cancellation stamp.
The Booster Club had delicious concessions for sale and the Merchants Association had T-shirts and collectable post cards for sale.
The Oxbow Quilters club displayed 140 beautiful quilts made by 14 Quilters. The quilts filled the Christian Church with tremendous artistry, beauty and workmanship.. Those attending the event were treated to a pie and ice cream social hosted by the Christian Women’s Fellowship group.
“ElMur Fest” is organized by the Elmwood Murdock Merchant’s Association with sponsorship dollars from the Cass County Visitor’s Promotion Committee, American Exchange Bank, Corn Growers State Bank, Oxbow Pet Products, Stock Seed Farm, Ervin & Smith Advertising, Ash Grove – Louisville Plant, Potash Corp – Weeping Water, Future Technologies, Midwest Farmers Cooperative, Cass County Refuse and HDR Consulting.
