The Badger Has a No Good Really Bad Day
Sorry the Badger can't talk right now, he's a little tied up.
Mr. Badger is alive and just hanging around. He's really crabby, too. I wouldn't want to be the one to cut him loose!
The Magic of Prom Night
The Junior/Senior Prom was Saturday night. Millie was able to go because she was invited by her boyfriend, Garyn, who is a Junior. This is the first time the Prom/Post Prom Committees have arranged for the events to be at the same facility. They worked very hard on this and the kids had a great time.
The kids all met at the high school Saturday afternoon dressed to the hilt! The parents waited outside…in the frigid wind…and the kids came out walking down the red carpet to the limousines. As they reached the cars they stopped and turned so we could take their pictures. Then they climbed in…it took four limos to hold them all…and took off for Dave and Busters in Omaha. The limos took them on a cruise through Elmwood then on to Omaha. They cruised through the Old Market before stopping at the main event. The kids had dinner and danced until midnight. Then they changed their clothes and got comfortable so they could play! Dave and Busters is like a Chucky Cheese for teenagers! After playing all night they loaded up on the school bus and came home. Millie made it home around 5:00 and slept almost all day. Oh, to be a kid again!

The D.A.R.E. Skate brings Conestoga and Weeping Water kids out
Deputy Wes Tuttle teaches the D.A.R.E. program to kids in Cass County. D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. The kids learn how to stay away from drugs. At the end of the program the kids come to the rink to celebrate. Deputy Tuttle and Sheriff Bill Brueggemann are on hand to enjoy the kids' company and skate with them.
Deputy Tuttle and Sheriff Bill sign the D.A.R.E. shirt. All the kids sign it and we hang it on the wall.

Sunday was a day for tears of goodbye for an old friend and tears of joy for a new one.
Patty Wolcott, long time friend and resident of many in Elmwood passed away last week. Her memorial service was Sunday afternoon. Patty will be missed for her caring ways, her spirit, and her dedication to her family and friends.
Sunday also happened to be the time for a baby shower for Jennifer and Nathan Brettmann. Their baby is expected to arrive within the next couple of weeks.
The circle of life is saying goodbye to those we cherish as we open our hearts to new friends.
Jennifer Brettmann soon to be mom!

I recently read your column advising grandparents to practice "tough love"
on misbehaving grandchildren whose own parents let them run wild. I have
followed your advice, and enclose a picture demonstrating my technique
when my grandson just won't behave while I'm babysitting for his parents. They have told me NOT to spank him, so I just take him for a ride, and he
usually calms down afterward.
Tough Love Grandma
Jordyn goes for quite the ride herself!
We are starting to make our plans for summer at the rink! Stay tuned for more details! We have a lot of fun ideas for the kids!
Watch out for Pranksters today! I know I will be on my guard around Joe, he's planning all kinds of tricks for me!
Have a good week!
