Darin Platts wife Lauren has been battling illness for a long time now. Several months ago she was FINALLY diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease after years of hospital stays, treatments, specialists, and emergency room visits.
Currently, shes lost half of her vision and use a walker. She has almost lost her life once already resulting in a lengthy hospital stay. They are aiming to send her to the Hansa Center in Wichita, KS for alternative treatment.
The only problem is that the 3 wk program is very expensive and with all of the other medical bills, medication, and trips out state for Lyme literate doctors, they are unable to send her at this time.
As a mother of a young son and wife to a husband, she fights for her life every day for her family.
There will be a free will donation for pulled pork sandwiches, beans and a bag of chips.
Also, a silent auction will also take place with karaoke following. Here is a sneak peek at just a few of the silent auction items. Think Christmas everyone, it's NOT too early and it goes to a good cause.
If your able to make it all proceeds will go directly to Darin and Lauren to help out with all of the medical expenses they will incur through this tough time. Let's all show our support for a great friend and family.

Bess Street Aldrich House and Museum
This month kicks off the Garden Barn Quilt Show and Silent Auction. Last Saturday after the Farmers Market I headed over to the Aldrich House.
All morning I had watched several Master Gardeners working in the flower beds, cleaning, pruning and I had to go over and thank them. They didn't want their photo taken or credit given, but THANK YOU!!
Every month they get together and maintain not only the Aldrich Gardens but a designated garden at the Lofte Theatre. As you can see from these photos their efforts this year have been amazing and the Aldrich House yard hadn't looked this good in years.
Plan ahead to attend the Fall Quilt and Barn Quilt Show at the Bess Streeter Aldrich House
September 1 to October 14
With the help of the Oxbow Quilters and several other contributors, the Aldrich House is expecting over 40 fall quilts for the inside the house. Outside, you will find 15 mini barn quilts (2' x 2') that have been designed to go along with our garden themes.
These "wooden quilts" are available for viewing in our beautiful gardens and will be for sale through a silent auction process. Please share this post with your friends and make this special exhibit part of your fall activities
Elmwood #LittleFreePantry
The Elmwood Little Free Pantry got some maintenance and cleaning this weekend by Beth Philson. An angry family of wasps set up home and a wasp nest in the eaves of the little house when she was stocking food.
They didn't go silently either. Note her wrapped hand. That is ice on her ring finger. Good thing she is a nurse and knows the signs on when to go to the ER and have her ring cut off.
Her finger did NOT turn blue and swelling is down. But she spent a miserable Saturday. But the mission is accomplished. The free pantry is cleaned, sanitized and filled with items for the needy once more.
THANKS, BETH!!
The Little Free Pantry is located between Hufstader Chiropractor, the Elmwood Meat Market, and the Village Hall.
The items in it are FREE for those who are needy, don't have food in their cabinets and need just a little something to get them by till the next day. Various people donate items to put in the cupboard, and they notice that several items do disappear.
Spread the news. Stop by and put something in when you come back from grocery shopping. If you know a family or anyone struggling, let them know this resource is available in town.
What can you donate, what may you find?
Generally, canned vegetables and proteins, personal care items, and paper goods. Kid-friendly non-perishables, crayons, and school supplies are perfect, even travel soap and personal hygiene items are welcome.
EVERY SATURDAY 8:00 am-Noon
Elmwood Park
The Farmer's Market will be open from June to October 1st and anyone is welcome to participate.
There was a new vendor this week Jesse from Double Creek Farms in Murdock. She also had cinnamon rolls. She said she will be back to make sure to stop by the park Saturday morning and support our local small businesses.
She had farm fresh eggs and local honey!
Have extra produce from your garden? Extra apples, pears, pumpkins or even some cookies?
People are ALWAYS asking for cookies!
Give your kids a fun project and let them earn some extra money and have a cookie sale.
There is no sign-up sheet or a fee...just show up and set up and sell your items.
2018 Harvest Moon Hustle
The harvest Moon Hustle is coming back to Elmwood on Friday, September 14th. This is the seventh year Elmwood has hosted the home of the race.
Two more volunteers are needed to join the EPIC Squad for the Harvest Moon Hustle!
We are volunteering to work the after party where 1300 runners will end their race and have some dinner and wind down after a fun run. The event is Friday, September 14th. They need us from 6:30 - 11:00 but normally we usually leave around 9:30.
Our job is to take tickets and clear off tables as needed and empty the trash cans. It really is very simple and the people are awesome. We always have fun and then they send a check to the Village for the park. Maybe we could get some benches around the playground!
Let Julie Anderson know if you want to join the EPIC Squad!

Work on N-63 Alvo North Realignment
March 15, 2018 (Lincoln, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work is scheduled to continue the week of March 19 on N-63, between Alvo and I-80, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Knife River, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa has the $11,758,926 contract. Work will include realignment of N‑63, culverts and box culverts, and wetland mitigation. This will be the second of two phases of work.
During this phase, N-63 will be closed to traffic from Reference Post 4+20 (Alvo) to Reference Post 9+68 (Church Road). A marked detour will be in place along I-80 to N-66 to N-50 to US-34 for southbound traffic and along US-34 to N-50 to N-66 to I-80 for northbound traffic. This portion of the project is anticipated to be completed in November 2018.
The Department’s project manager is Jesse De Los Santos of Lincoln. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through work zones and along detours.
