Spring is here and the sound of lawn mowers and the smell of lilacs are in the air.
Elmwood-Murdock is busy with activity. There are track meets, early graduation parties, the retirement recognition of Mrs. Colbert at the Spring Concert, plant sale, tea in the Aldrich Gardens. You really can't be bored in town unless you really try.
You might even see the Nebraska Governor in town signing the state budget bill!
You may even see some very dedicated ladies running (or walking) very early in the morning. I'm one of them that joined Shannon Josoffs Fitness Boot Camp. It's really the only way I have survived all the garden work without collapsing.
How many of you bought plants at the Spirit Squad plant sale? Did you get them planted? Don't worry, you are not late, remember there was snow just a couple of weeks ago.
There are A LOT of activities coming up too!
The STRING BEANS are coming to town! Yes, the nationally known children's entertainment group will be playing in the Elmwood Park. Then there is the Mothers Dinner at the Methodist Church and the Progressive Dinner.
If that isn't enough to keep you busy don't forget Elmwood Cleanup Days is the first part of June. While you are cleaning out your garages, attics, and basements you may find items you want to sell. So don't forget to sign up for the Elmwood-Murdock Garage Sales.

What a WONDERFUl weekend for the first Tea Party in the Aldrich Gardens!
Several people on both Saturday and Sunday sat in the gardens drank tea, snacked on finger foods and took time to socialize with friends and neighbors. I was one of them. I really didn't want to leave and I could have sat there all day!
The Christian Church Women's Group will be hosting "Tea in the Garden" every Saturday and Sunday in May from 1:00 -4:00
A great time to gather with friends, relax and enjoy the spring weather. Inside the museum is a collection of tea cups, teapots, and tea service ware which is a reminder of how people entertained guests years ago. I wish we could go back to it now.
Next week stay tuned for even more photos of the Tea Time exhibit.

The Junior-Senior High Spring Concert is highly anticipated every year. This year it marked the retirement of Betty Colbert who has been such a factor in the development of our youth in the community. A large group of alumni got together and surprised her with, what else, song. It was very emotional and I don't think there was a dry eye in the crowd
Many of these students went on to study music in college and now teach music in Nebraska.
The musical talent that Mrs. Colbert and Mr. Hansen bring out in our students is amazing!
This year the band received Superiors at District Music contest. For a Class C School, we can compete right up there with bigger schools. It is wonderful that the students have such dedicated teachers and a well-rounded music education.
Even the Junior High choir is impressive! Solos even! That is VERY rare at the junior high level.
If you would like to listen to more of the Elmwood-Murdock choir and band you can visit my Elmwood-Murdock YouTube Channel for more performances from years past.
