Elmwood Nebraska News
Happy Halloween!!
I really appreciate the people who go to the extra effort to decorate for all the holidays and Halloween especially.
It has been a holiday for the kids and it's totally OKAY if it's commercialized and gaudy. Christmas, on the otherhand, I like more "sophisticated" and it's more of a religious holiday.
But Halloween, go all out with ghosts, inflatables, scary animation and I'm all for it!!
NEXT is Veterans Day...
Please send me photos and local stories of active and retired veterans so I can highlight their contributions.
There are numerous Veterans Day celebrations and recognitions I will feature the next couple of weeks, but I really want your stories too.
NEEDED: Photos and stories of local veterans

Halloween Photos
I promised you Halloween photos, and I delivered!!
One of my favorite joys of growing up was trick or treating and we are lucky where we live in that our neighbor LOVES Halloween and LOVES to decorate. He has a haunted Pirate display complete with animatronics.
That is the draw to our corner of town as everyone has to see what is new in his yard.
We had about 60-70 trick or treaters, ranging from a princess, a banana, Transformer, Captain America and Spiderman.
Salute to Veterans at St. Paul Methodist Church
This past Sunday was the Salute to Veterans service at St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Elmwood.
Two quilts, made by the Oxbow Quilters were given to Ed and Jace Blunt by Bonnie Brewer in a very teary ceremony.
Several displays of veterans from the Elmwood-Murdock area were also on display and below are just a few photos of the event.
In the grand tradition of a church dinner fried chicken, pork loin and all the fixings were served by the ladies of the church. If you went away hungry it was your own fault.
I don't think anyone went away hungry. It was standing room only and the organizers did a fantastic job honoring our veterans.
There is a series of local activities honoring our veterans between October 30th and November 13th. Be sure to put them on your calendar so you won't miss them.
The Oxbow Quilters were honored to be able to award Quilts of Valor to this father-son duo - Ed and Jase Blunt. Ed served in Vietnam in 1968-1969; Jase has had tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2008, as well as a tour in Afghanistan in 2013.
Be sure to visit the Facebook page of the GAR Veterans Museum for more photos of the event.
Nathan Hromanik served in the United States Marine Corps from 2010-2015. He graduated from MCRD boot camp in San Diego, trained in Alabama and was stationed in Yuma AZ.
In 2012 he was deployed to Camp Bastion Afghanistan and assigned to MALS 16 (Marine Airwing Logistics Squadron) 3rd Marine Aircraft Wig (Forward) He received an accommodation for the record-breaking turnaround delivery to the flight line supporting four flying squadrons.
This last table is of our two youngest Marines, David Hromanik and Dallas Romine. David served from 2011-2016 at Camp Pendleton CA, Northwest Annex in Virginia in Command Security Forces and his last assignment was in Norfolk Virginia in Command Services.
Dallas Romine graduated boot camp at MCRD in San Diego and is serving at 29 Pams in Radio Communications attached to an Infantry Platoon.
I would also like to ask for submissions to the Newsletter on our local military members who are currently serving so I can highlight them the week of Veterans Day Please send your veteran stories to editor@elmwoodnebraska.com
