On Friday, May 8, the 70th Anniversary of VE Day, six members of American Legion Post 247 were awarded Quilts of Valor (QOV) made by the Oxbow Quilters.

Members of Post 247 receiving QOVs were Boyd Clements, Dwight Clements, Oral Kuehn, Glenn Miller, Hilton Rogers, and Lorens Ropers.  In addition, a QOV was presented to Hallie Mills in memory of Stuart Mills who passed away in January.  All of these World War II veterans served overseas during the war.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.  The quilts are meant to say thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation.  The Oxbow Quilting Group is made up of members from the Elmwood-Murdock and surrounding area and chose QOVs as one of their group projects this year.

What is the Murdock Mural Project?

Well, you know the Murdock Museum?  Someone noticed that the south wall of the building is a perfect place for a mural!  The Elmwood Murdock FBLA and the Cass County Tourism Fund is sponsoring this project.  Donations of ideas, money, time, and local knowledge is welcome!  The artist for the project, Rebecca Van Ornam, is holding meetings to gather input from local residents about ideas for the mural.  She plans to start painting in June.  So if you would like to have input please come to the meetings.  She has a process that she is working through to draw information from the people.  You can be expecting more announcments and information about this project!
