Joseph Hall Performing at the Lofte Community Theatre
Elvis is in the building! Back by popular demand, the Lofte Community Theatre is proud to announce that legendary Elvis tribute artist, Joseph Hall will be doing two public performances at the theater on Saturday, February 18 at 2pm and 7pm.
Mr. Hall will amaze you with your live performance as Elvis Presley. Having performed in Las Vegas, Chicago, Los Angeles and Branson, the Lofte is proud to showcase Mr. Hall during one of his visits home. Tickets are $20 and reservations can be made by calling the box office at (402) 234-2553. The Lofte is located near the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 50 just east of the town of Manley.

Irish Music Concert at Greenblatt & Seay's
Greenblatt & Seay's Schoolhouse Performance Series features a concert of Irish music on Sunday, March 11, at 2:30 PM. Greenblatt & Seay & Friends will be singing and playing a variety of instruments, including fiddle, pennywhistle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, and banjo. Traditional Irish tunes will be featured, along with some Greenblatt & Seay originals inspired by the great Irish traditions.
Greenblatt & Seay have been playing and singing together since the night they met, decades ago. Their performance on March 11 will include the championship fiddling styles of Deborah Greenblatt, and the fancy whistle-playing of David Seay.
The concert will be followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers. Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students & seniors, and $1.00 for children. The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990. Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
The Scholastic Book Fair will be here for Parent/Teacher Conferences February 10. The books will be displayed for purchase in the elementary library. The book fair will also be open the following week before school and after school until 4:00 P.M. Scholastic gives the library a percentage of the total sales in Scholastic Coupons which can be redeemed for books and other instructional resources. We have added picture books, chapter books and non-fiction books to our library's collection.
USED BOOK SALE...Helps E-M FBLA “SPARK” enthusiasm for recycling books!
The Elmwood-Murdock Chapter of FBLA has created a program where “Students Preserve America’s Resources to Kindle Success” for our economic system. “SPARKS,” with the help of their Go Green mascot, Sparky, is hosting a recycling program! “SPARKS” is accepting old books to be recycled. On February 10, we will be selling these books at Parent/Teacher Conferences. Any books not sold will go to a recycling company, and all profits will go to the library to purchase new books about recycling and the American Enterprise System. Additional donations of books can be brought to the elementary school before Friday, February 10. Thank you!
OMAHA SYMPHONY
Because of the generous contribution of the S.O.S. all 4th and 5th graders will be attending the Margre Durham Concerts for Youth by the Omaha Symphony. The event takes place on Friday February 24th at 9:45 a.m. at the Holland Center in Omaha. Students will board buses after their arrival at school that morning and will return in time for lunch at the Elmwood school.
BASEBALL/SOFTBALL REGISTRATION
Baseball/Softball 2012 Registration—Registration forms will be available in the commons area of the elementary at PT conferences on Friday, February 10th. Please remember to stop by and sign up your kids for the 2012 season! Registrations are due March 3rd, 2012. The form will also be available on the baseball/softball website www.emsports.org. We are also looking for volunteers to help manage both concession stands this season. If you are interested, please contact Loren Lockman, Randy Marlatt, Adam Offner or Pam Goudie.

SEED FUNDRAISER
SOS is participating in a fundraiser developed by Seed Savers Exchange, a major non-profit organization established 35 years ago to save, preserve and collect heirloom seeds for future generations. Students brought home a brochure with six heirloom collections of gardener-pleasing varieties. 40% of each sale will go toward to the school. Seed Savers Exchange, whose mission is to assure garden biodiversity, believes food choices positively affect health, nutrition and sustainability.

SPRING CARNIVAL NEWS
The S.O.S. Spring Carnival is scheduled for Friday, April 13, 2012. This is our major fundraiser for the year. If any parents work or frequent places where donations may be possible, please contact an S.O.S. member. We can either contact the business or provide a letter for the parent to use when asking for a donation.
2010-2011 YEARBOOKS FOR SALE
The Elmwood-Murdock Schools still have yearbooks leftover from last year. Please contact the school if you would like to purchase a 2010-2011yearbook. The price is $50.
STOCKING HATS, GLOVES, AND MITTENS
The Methodist Church of Elmwood has donated stocking hats, gloves, and mittens to the school so that they may be given to students who are in need of these items. Please contact the elementary office if you could use any of these items for your child.
A BULLY FREE SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Elementary Student Council will be starting a new program this year to encourage students to resist bullying and support positive peer relationships in our school. The week of February 13th, the Student Council members will be teaching daily lessons to each class about bullying and ways to build positive relationships with their peers. The event will conclude on Friday, February 17th with a Hats On Day. Any student who wishes to be a positive friend is encouraged to wear their favorite hat to school.
In an effort to raise funds for this new project, the Student Council will be holding a bake sale during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Friday, February 10. The members will be in the commons area all day selling baked goods for a free will donation.
GIRLS SCOUTS TO SELL COOKIES AT PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
The Girl Scouts will be selling cookies in the commons area of the elementary during parent-teacher conferences on February 10, 2012.
SPELLING BEE RESULTS
The Elmwood-Murdock Spelling Bee for grades 5-8 was held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. The winner was Scott Bracken (8th) and the runner-up was Chloe Stansell (5th). The alternate is Nick Goudie. Congratulations to these students.
