Abra Cadabra! Reading is Magic!
SATURDAY, November 20th 5:00 PM - this is a time change!!!!!
Keith West, magician and illusionist, visited the Elmwood-Murdock Junior High School Monday morning and kicked off the week for the students with a touch of magic and a whole lot of fun. He tossed a huge ball into the crowd and let the kids bat it around before pulling out the big guns...a leaf blower with a roll of toilet paper attached to the end. When he flipped it on the toilet paper unrolled as if exploding into the crowd. From there he proceeded to perform some card tricks and then levitated a student.
After dazzling the junior high Keith visited the lunch crowd at the Elmwood Community Center. Judy cooks up a great lunch every day that draws the crowds in to share not only their lunch time but their daily lives with each other. Keith shared their lunch hour with them performing card tricks, telling jokes, and teasing the diners. He performed several other slight of hand magic tricks and made the crowd ooh and ahh at his antics.
The magician moved on to the Elmwood Murdock Elementary school for an afternoon assembly. Here he performed more tricks but mixed the fun with a message about reading. He talked about his roots in magic beginning when he was 10 years old in the 5th grade. His love of magic started as he watched Mombo perform tricks and stunts with Dr. Max on the daily show. Mombo came to his school and gave a lesson on magic. Keith was hooked! His life long journey with magic started on that day. He went to the library and checked out every book he could find on magic and began to study the art of magic. When he was 12 Keith started performing at birthday parties, school fun nights, and safety nights. Keith stressed to the kids how reading can open up many doors for them. He told the kids the importance of school and how special their teachers and parents are to help them achieve their goals. Keith has performed in Las Vegas and with Bob Zany and Chick McGee of the "Bob and Tom" radio show. He has performed on the 2010 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon from the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Keith will soon be adding to his list of accomplishments a performance at the Elmwood Murdock High School. Keith's upcoming performance will be on Saturday, November 20th at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. This show has it all! Magic and illusions, comedy, surprises, and fun for the whole family. Elementary kids can order ahead using the order form sent home. The tickets will be waiting at the door if pre ordered. Junior High and High School kids may buy their tickets in the school office.
